It's surprising the number of people who call them labtops

 

Funny you should mention that I actually work Staples (sigh). I got mine for like $200 and it is a $280 17" monitor. Still not bad and works fairly well with 16ms responce/500:1 contrast. Nothing amazing, but it works fine for my poor ****. That $199 monitor sucks though Trust me.

As for the desk, again, I'm broke! It holds up the computer, and as soon as this new job passes, I will give it to Good Will!

Normally, I would completly agree with you, but that G5 works amazingly better when it comes to rendering and such. Of course you pay a pretty penny for that upgrade... Overall, AMD is the best one on the market (sorry P4 fans), and it should be interesting since Mac plans to open up their platform to Intel based systems. Hopefully, that will also mean AMD as well.

Now here is where it gets interesting. The new Cell Processor in the PS3 will take them all by storm. Unless AMD, Intel, and even the Power PC G5 step up their game, the Cell will take the market by storm! It has so much power packed in it with its 8 layered processors (one being dedicated to managing), it provides the PS3 a title as a supercomputer believe it or not.

 

get like 4 dual core opteron and it still cost less. Can get 8 dual core opteron at 400 a piece and still cost only 3,200

 

But you are still running Windows, and then you have to find a Motherboard that even supports that many. Basically, due to the limitations of Windows XP, you can not run more than 4GB of ram, which is where the G5 Mac reigns supreme right now. Your only option to run the extended ram is to run Windows 64bit Beta which has worse support than a mac does for both software and hardware. Ontop of that you have the problem with stability which is where Mac's have always come out on top. While PC's will let you do more with the OS, that ability to have more variables has made the system slightly more unstable than the X which is a solid performing 64bit OS.

Basically, until Windows Vista comes out, the G5 is the most powerful, stable, and functional computer available to the public. (again, excluding gaming)

Don't think I am a Mac fanboy because I do not run one at home nor would I pick a Mac desktop over a PC at this moment in time. I simply know what works better with what, and will admit both have their advantages.

 

Very well said, also, my other computers are P4's, and AMD's, so I have a well rounded setup. The mac is awesome, definately worth it, and the PC's can't live with out them. Having both, you have every option to do anything and do it the best. That's why I have both platforms.

 

actually the windows x64 is not a beta. Has been out of the beta stage for awhile now. And a g5 won't be a g5 anylonger since mac is gonna be running Intel chips soon.
