try a different brand of cd-r's, preferably something more high quality. that usually is the problem

No cd's are playing, reguardless of whether they are cd-r's or regular cds. Anyone experience this?

Yes it is common. Yes you are screwed. You can replace it or have it repaired. Neither is cheap. Repair by a competent knowledgeable technician for that problem may cost you close to $200. It may cost near the same to have it replaced with a used unit in good condition. Consider replacing the H/U and the speakers. It may cost more but you will probably be happier with the results if you buy quality equipment. .02

Haha...Bose...hahahaha

My PAC is here as well...waiting on the headunit and the harness to go with it tomorrow. How'd yours turn out then BlackMax1992SE? Did you get all the problems sorted out?

Yea the bose sound good with the new HU. The only downside is that high piched S's in some songs sound distorted (hard to explain). Dont get confused when insalling ur PAC because only the speaker wires will go threw the PAC, the other wires (power, constant, antenna ect) do not go threw the pac they go around the PAC and straight to the headunit.

What do you mean "around"? Physically around? Or just that they go through the box but aren't altered at all?

physicaly around, there are 8 wires that go threw the box. Each speaker (4) has a + and - wire (4x2=8)

wiring harness --> PAC ---> Headunit
..................\___________/
............... (other wires path)

The PAC is a "kick down" which means it bassicly tunes down ur headunit to not send its 45x4 watts to ur bose amps. Because if u sent all those watts to be amped, u will get way to much power and blow ur speakers. Your original bose headunit only signaled the bose amps to turn on, it didnt send any power to them. You still need or 12v's to go to ur Headunit (red and yellow wire) cant send them threw the kick down.

the diagram should actually look like this

Wireing harness <--- PAC <----- Headunit
.....................\______________/

The arrows representing the direction of the current. The headunit sends its sound threw the PAC inorder to "kick down" the power so it doesnt blow ur speakers after it goes threw ur amps.

So basically connect the Bose wiring to the PAC...but on the other end where the loose wires are, only connect those 8 wires to the loose wires? Do I just tape off the other ones?

Great...now where do I get a power source and everything else? Mutilate the stock Bose wiring?

Your wireing harness has about 12 wires, 8 of which will go threw ur PAC in order to get to ur head unit. The remaining 4 or so will go around ur PAC and connect to ur Headunit. Those 4 or so wires are your Power, ground, antenna, constant.

12? I don't think so. There's 14 going into the PAC from the Bose wiring. Then I have 18 going to the headunit. So what needs connected, and what needs left alone?

Also, what does constant do? And I don't think I'll hook up the antenna because I don't want mine up all the time, nor do I have the proper adapter.

One last one: How do I adjust the 4 outputs?

Thats alot of wires. Mine only had the speaker wires that go threw the PAC

The constant is tiny constant flow of power that is always going to ur headunit so that it can remember such thing as time on the clock, and what ur programed ur presets to be, anything that needs to be "remembered"

Ohh. Interesting...

Which kit did you have? Mine is the PAC ROEM-NIS2.

Curious, which one is the constant...the orange wire? or the yellow? (orange = "illumination", yellow = "battery")
