What to do about dimming lights???

I have 2 12" pioneers subs and a 600 watt Kenwood amp. Everytime the bass hits, all the lights dim. I have a voltmeter in the car and it jumps from 14- 12. What is the best fix for this? Should I put in a second battey, or get a cap? Any links to help me with this would be helpful. Thanx

hey, I don't know much about 2nd batts or caps, but the big 3 took care of my dimming problems, you might want to give that a try too

Check all your grounds for the amp, a good ground should eliminate the problem !

What gauge wire are you running for that amp? Upgrade it. Upgrade your big 3 and you'll be on your way.

I tried to eliminate the dimming in mine recently. I upgraded the big-3 with 0ga. I upgraded the power and grounds to 0ga. These seem to have had the most effect. I have had a second yellow-top in the trunk since the system was installed in Feb. The lights still dim at night at full tilt, but I suspected I would not be able to eliminate it totally. Sand down all your grounds properly and do the big-3 and see what that does. I have no experience with the batcap.

Positive alternator to positive battery terminal.
Negative battery terminal to chassis
Chassis to engine(ground)

Very interesting. But i'm a little confused. I have around 1300 total watts, what would i get? The Batcap 300? Does that replace my battery or just an addon? Sorry their site really didn't help me. If this will take car of dimming and alternator whine problems, someone should definately get a group deal going!

The 400 is the most common and its an add-on, not a replacement for anything.

Also, you said you had a 600 watt kenwood (I'll bet you're not seeing 600 watts with that). but anyway, where did the other 700 watts come from?

Many people run more without a batcap. Like we all said upgrade your wires then talk about batcap.

Very true, although it would be great to get people in on a GD.

Apologies.

You should still upgrade wire before getting a batcap.
