this static sound is driving me crazy! any ideas?

A quick initial disclaimer: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT ALTERNATOR WHINE... it's a different type of sound and it's even present when the engine isn't on and I'm just running off the battery.

So I've had this really damn annoying static sound in my system basically since I installed it. It's only audible on lower volume levels (when it practically drowns out any sound) or when a song gets relatively quiet, like during a guitar solo or something.

I've tried the following to fix it, to no avail:
1. regrounded head unit
2. regrounded amps
3. run new speaker wires
4. run new RCAs (the double coiled $90/a set kind)
5. tried a brand new amp
6. put in RCA filters

None of these things has helped. The only other thing I can think it might be is the head unit itself, but I'd be somewhat surprised if that's the case. I originally just had it running to my factory speakers, before I upgraded the entire system, and when it was run to the factory speakers, I don't recall there being any sound like this.

So, I guess, after all this typing my question is: do you have any thoughts on what this could be? Any suggestions would be appreciated because I think if I have to keep listening to this static, I'll go Jack Nicholson in the Shining kind of crazy.

Thanks.

Considering its Christmas Eve, I do believe people have lives outside of this forum. So to say "not give a crap" is a bit extreme a will limit your responses, as well as get a bit of flaming your way.

My suggestion...simply turn down your gains.
