oppinions on alpine hu's.

i'm in the market to buy a HU and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the new alpine stuff.

I'm looking at the cda-9856 because it has aux in (ipod) and is sat ready.

Thanks in advance.

The new alpine stuff is crap. But the older decks are good (9815, 9830, 9835). I don't think you will like the "glidetouch" on they're newer decks.

I definitely like the older alpines although the sq isn't THAT great from any of them (non f#1, and a couple other exceptions)

I used to have an alpine 9813, it was nice, but the SQ wasn't very good compared to the kenwood excelon x789 I put in after that. I'm in the market for another H.U. right now and alpines aren't even on my list of what I'm looking at.

Try Pioneer. I've never had any problms and they sound good IMO.

Pioneer and Alpine are comparable. I think Pioneers have better EQ, but Alpines look better hands down. Pioneers have that cheap ricer look that I hate.

By the way, I'd order the Alpine from crutchfield as the price difference elsewhere isn't much and you'll have peace of mind.

Also, the 9856 doesn't have glidetouch.

My Alpine CDA-9847 works great with Alpine KCA-420i ipod control interface.

I'll upgrade to eclipse when I get the money.

Pecking order is generally considered:

(1) Denon/Nakamich
(2) Eclipse
(3) Alpine

I have an Alpine, only because I purchase that before I had even heard of Eclipse. In all honesty, I am very pleased with the Alpine, I don't really see the desire to switch anytime soon.

Have an alpine 9860 only because it controls the 701. Slow to progress from one song to the next once a button is pressed, a cheap feel to it as a whole.

Liked the Eclipse 8053 and Clarion DRZ 9255 (expecially) better as far as build and feel. Alpine wins due to the h701.

I have a 9851 with two Alpine Amps, Boston Acoustic speakers, and 3 JL Audio 12W6 12s in the trunk. I like it overall. I have an Alpine 6 disc MP3 changer and the iPod interface as well. I'm a brand ***** though.

Never had any complaints - I like Alpine's stuff.

The 7998 is a nice HU. I've had two of them. For me the Alpine CDA-7949 paired up with my PXA-H600 was the best Alpine setup I've had (I also had two of these). Maybe even my best setup period. I had them hooked up with the optical connection.

If you can get a used 9815 or 9835 go for it... i upgraded to a 9855 and regret it due to glide touch.

I've got a Pioneer DEHP 4100 that I've had for years, and am now upgrading to an Alpine HU (9856). Pioneer has great equilization controls, but I feel that their newer stuff looks too "bling" for my tastes. The good thing about Alpine's 2006 models is that they support iPod controls via their "full speed" cable which promises (supposedly) faster searches, etc, and only needs a $30 cable as opposed to a $100 box w/ cables.

The ipod control features are nice but the interface degrades the SQ for some odd reason.

Wow this thread kinda took off in the last couple days.

For those of you selling your HU's can you please PM me with a quote. I don't mind buying used as long as the deck is in good condition and it has AUX in.

I checked out the new eclipses and they sorta have that "ricer" look that someone was mentioning before about the pioneers. I think that's why I was leaning towards alpine.

You can PM me for new, or Manny for a excellent condition used '05 top notch Eclipse.

I firmly believe function> form so looks dont matter to me at all.

How does the iPod interface degrade sound quality? Just curious, as I've got a friend with a Alpine 9847 and the iPod interface box and his sounds just fine...

Just my .02 bout Alpine, I love alpine decks, but the newer ones are gettin crappier. Tried to run my new 9855 rca out to the factory amp, o wait I cant only 2v preouts, if u want 4v u gotta spend 500ish. Also don't get iPod interface, get the AI-NET to rca cable and then u have stereo headphone jack and can plug in anything. Also this method costs about 10-15 bucks. Glidetouch also sucks, Im waitin for these new alpines that are comin out in march, they look better than the crappy glidetouch ones now.. Also had 9833 and loved it, many more feature than the 9855. Also the general concensus here that eclipse decks sound better?

I don't understand what you guys are talking about that say Alpine=downgrade. I love my Alpine 9825 and have had many Alpine head units in the past which I have always been well pleased with.

Some of us have noticed things kind of gowing downhill with Alpine over the last few years. I myself have owned many of their HU's since the early 90's. My favorite HU was one that came out in 1997. I bought the processor that came out the following year for it. In my view, the newer units that had built in processors with more features could not touch those old units. I bought a few on the newer ones and was not as satisfied. I ended up going to Eclipse for my HU's.
