My attempt at a screen install (pics)

I must 1st say I have no real experience with stereo installs, i just could see myself spending $600 to install a tv. I went to various stereo shops and they all told me it was a custom install and that was the price to get it done. So I tried it myself, so that if i messed up i could somehow justify spending $600.

$200 7in Widescreen Monttor

Monitor in the bezel

Monitor out of the bezel

The factory woodgrain from my GLE and the extra black trim piece I bought

A shot of how much I had to trim the opening to get the bezel to fit

I went with the bezel because I didnt know of a way to mount the tv without it and also I did it because if you notice the tabs on it, i can pop the screen out. I used some quick connects on the + and - wires so i cant take the tv out when i feel.

Thats cool, makes it easy to steal to though. If you were to mount it without the trim you could have used the hot glue, thats what I have.

Very nice job! Looks niiiiiiiiiice! What do you have hooked up to it as far as a video source?

My KSports give my passengers headaches when they are playing a video game on my Microvision.

That looks real nice , congrats on the mod! These screen mods for the 4th gens, and the ease of installation, really does make me regret selling my 4th gen a couple months ago, this would have been something I would have done almost immediately, too bad it too me so much time to find out about this mod after I sold the car. Ahh well, I love seeing this mod, its amazing how close to stock people can get the screen to appear.

The deck is not as good as i had hoped its a regular deck with DVD capability.
The sound quality isnt that great. No motorized face (not a neccecity, but for the price i sorta expected it). When you put in a MP3/WMA disk it takes almost the same time to warm up my car as it does to load the 1st song.

The deck has wallpaper no screensavers. It can only store 2 at a time, you download others from the alpine site. The deck has one little setting menu for like aspect ratio and ntsc or pal setting nothing special.

Another thing i dont like is the video is on for DVD's and mp3/wma disks but it turns off when you select the radio.

hey i installed my screen yesterday.... i love it.... im gonna post pics later today.... one question tho. all i did was the the cig lighter wires and connect them to the screen. when i turn the car one, i get a little bit on wavy lines in the screen. im assuming im getting engine interference. did this happen to you. also would it make difference if i grounded it instead of connecting it to the black cig wire?

I connecteg the + and - wires of my screen to the same pos and neg wires of the deck. The screen is clear at all times except when the bass hits the screen dims a lil.

The picture quality and the fact that i didnt have to wait for shipping. I bought it off a guy that owns a stereo shop.

is this a better setup than a flip-out monitor/DVD hu? it seems like you can get some cheap ones from ebay or elsewhere, but i'm guessing sound quality is crap? just tryin to figure out which way to go.

The stand alone screen was my personal preference. After I had seen Alpine and Clarion and other motorized screen that needed help going up after a year, I decided I didn't want that. I like the stand alone screen it looks more apart of the dash.
