Microvision Install... questions...

I just purchased a microvision screen from another .orger and he didn't know but, I am curious, is the orange wire on this illumination? I looked around and couldn't find anything, I asked some other people who are installers and they didn't know. I, nor them have ever seen an illumination wire, on a nor flip out, nonindash unit. Please help me! Thanks!

There should be an on-line manual for it or I'm sure someone whos got one can chime in on that. I don't think the orange wire needs to be hooked up though. And it is possible that that is the parking brake switch?.. I don't know just throwing suggestions out there

the red and orange wires are both power wires. just twist them together and splice them into a constant power source.

The red is the power.

IIRC, the orange had to do with switching it on. I can't remember the configuration, but if it was connected or not determined if the screen went on automatically, or if you had to use the wireless remote to turn it on.

Sweet, thanks, as well, I want to use my remote, I am molding this into my dash, not just mounting from the back. and I want it to be centered, can you extend the remote eye wires? and do I have to have the red eye piece? Thanks!

I dont have a microvision but know a bit about them. I'm pretty sure the orange wire is usually for the parking brake switch, but since you prob dont want that to be functional the easiest way to hook it up is to wrap both the red and orange wires together and splice them into the same power source. I remember reading that online somewhere just don't remember where

Awesome thanks, the housing was mounted this afternoon, but I had to leave for a night class, and had to do some last minute things for Valentines day, and so I am hoping to get it molding in tomorrow, so far it looks good.

You can extend the wires. There's 3 IIRC.
If you want to use the remote you obviously have to have the red eye sensor.

bhmax16, usually a parking brake switch is for a ground, not a power source. The orange wire has to do with whether the screen turns on with initial power, or after the user sends the screen a power-on signal via remote.

did you get it?

djfrestyl is correct. i have my microvision manual right here, and i remember myself:

RED: (+) 12 Volts power
BLACK: (-) Ground
ORANGE: Positive for TURN ON

Yellow RCA: Video in (duh)

you can wire the red and orange together if you want, but i wouldn't want my screen on 24/7.. wire it to a switch, it gives you an excuse to use that extra empty option spot on your dash

OR just leave it and use the remote to turn the screen on?

You're going to need to keep the IR eye so that you can make color and brightness adjustments from the remote anyway.....No need for a switch, more wiring, more work.

eh, to each his own. it took me less than 5 mins to put the switch in, id rather flick a small switch then have something else to jam in my center console (aNOTHER remote).... generally the default ettings on the screen are fine.

I have a switch wired up, I need to order a new one, smaller, less visable switch. But it is all hooked up, waiting for my remote to come in the mail. I got it all hooked up and it looks awesome. the primer from the molding is drying now, I will try and get some pics up soon! I ended up molding my CD player as well, to have to recessed, that way it isn't sticking out so much! Thanks for the help everyone!

Apparently not all that familiar. The orange wire is a switched on, for power. Aside from that Ive yet to see a parking brake produce voltage.

Although the overall end result works and can be appropriate, posting false info can be dangerous.

The parking brake wire, that is a ground is usually brown, if I am correct, however, that is only on the newer flip outs.

1. Your post has no relevance to this thread at all.
2. You are only partially right. The parking brake wire is not always brown.

I didn't state anything that was incorrect, I said I believe it is usually brown, but am not 100% sure.
