Python Alarms
Hey guys. I don't know much about alarms so hopefully I can get a few questions answered. I'm planning on going to circuit city this weekend and purchasing an alarm. The reason I'm going there is because I don't have the cash to be spending that kinda money on an alarm right now but I do have my CC card and there is 0% financing till july 2007 on purchases $299 and up. I looked on the website and saw the 2 that I like. The python 700 and the python 881xp. Is the only difference between these the remotes? I know not everthing is included with these alarms so what options should I get if I want a decent set up with trunk pop? Basically I'm definitly looking for a 2 way alarm, shock sensors, broken window sensors, trunk pop, window up and down would be nice, and remote start would be nice if it works on a 5spd. Does it?
Any and all answers and comments are greatly appreciated. I know Circuit City is hated by a lot of people but right now its really my only option (maybe Best Buy but not sure on there financing deals right now).

We (CC) won't install it on a 5 speed. CC/BB installs are hit or miss, theres good ones, and conversely some ones I work with at my own store that I won't let near my car. Your only choice is to go to Don, not only for warranty on a 5 spd, but if you want it done right. Nobody else is gonna know how to wire it up correctly to bypass the clutch.

Pretty sure Don's the guy that has his own shop. Personally, I'd take it to him because he has plenty of experience installing alarms and + he offers great deals to .org members.
When it comes to alarms, the installer makes a world of difference. BTW, I've been installing for circuit city for about 2.5 years now and consistently rank atleast top 15 percentile during peak seasons (just letting you know i'm credible). If you do decide to take it to Circuit City, make sure it's installed by an installer with good experience, you can ask to speak to a manager to make this happen if you'd like. With such a large corporation, the variability of skill levels are huge. As for the reputation, well... human nature dictates that we inheritently focus on negative experiences so take that for what it's worth. An added benefit of getting it installed @ cc is the advantage of nationwide warranty coverage incase you move. I've had a few customers from out of the area that had warranty work done at my shop.
Oh, and to answer your question. Yes the only difference between the two systems in the remote, LEDs vs. LCD display. + I believe the LED version comes with an additional 1-way remote.
Hope this helps, pm me if you have anymore questions.

thanks for the replies guy. I would love to go to don but I don't have the cash to spend on an alarm right now and I definitly need one asap as I do in live in the city. I have a circuit city credit card which offers you 0% financing right now on purchases $299 and up. Does anyone know any good circuit city's around the philadelphia area or west chester area??
So a good start would to maybe go to a couple and get a feel for the place and who's installing? As for the alarm, I don't really need that fancy remote and the 700 is $200 cheaper, is there anything else it's missing from the 881 and which extras should I be looking to get?

The fact that you don't have the cash doesn't negate the fact that CC will not install it on a 5 speed, and any other shop that does install it on a 5 speed (albeit against DEI's policy) will not do it properly. If you want to waste hundreds of your own dollars on something that won't be installed properly, go right ahead. But everyone here is going to recommend save your money. Don's running a group deal right now, you could get the Clifford RS2.1 installed for 335+tax. Do it.

I would love to go through Don but like I said I need an alarm NOW cause I live in the city and there are break in's all the time. I don't have time to save up for one. I went to Circuit City today and spoke with the actual installers and they all said they've been installing for atleast 2 years. I said that I've heard bad things about Circuit City and they agreed with me and said that they do hire peole with no experience sometimes, etc, etc....I got the Python 700 cause I don't really care for a remote start and it was $200 cheaper than the 881. I also got the trunk pop (another $40) and a backup battery ($40). I bought a glass break audio sensor and a pain siren off of ebay for $30...So all in all I'm pretty happy and I'll let you know how it comes out.
Thank you everyone for your replies and help.

$40 for trunk release??? Buahahahahaha isnt that part of "keyless entry" Damn I need to stop giving things away for free...
people will never learn. this forum is a great place to research and get answers. maybe because of my heritage I do ALOT of research before putting any cash into anything...whether or not I have it to begin with.

Yeah, we charge about the same at my shop. And if the guy/gal is pretty cool I'll usually try to hook'em up. Too bad my manager is a greedy shiester so he rarely hooks anybody up, prolly try to charge me to install my own alarm if he could. But yeah, let us know how it goes.
Oh, battery backup is a battery back-up siren. Atleast the one's we have at our shop... has a built in rechargable battery, cut any wires, and wahhwaahwaaahwaaah, and you'll need a key to shut it off.
