Trunk rattling problem
Trunk rattling problem
I know everyone has this problem to some degree but im looking for a cheaper way to fix it. Dynamat is really high and i've heard it is not worth the money. Is there any home materials that you can buy cheaper that would damper the vibration? I believe all dynamat is made from is vinyl and glue, is that true? I'm not cheap but i don't wanna waste my money on dynamat when i can use home materials to provide a quick fix....
a friend told me about this place www.mcmaster.com, they have this stuff called "polymeric mastic"... the item # is "9709T19".. its very similar to dynamat without the high price. i just ordered 3 sheets and completely covered my trunk and rear deck. the only drawback to it, it doesnt stick to surfaces as well as dynamat. so if you decide to try a sheet get a can of adhesive spray. but for the price of a sheet of the mastic you cant beat it. and it worked in my trunk.
Sound deadener sticky...read it.
Peal n' Seal' will fall right off during hotter months (and I know it gets hotter than hell in ATL), not to mention your entire interior is going to reek of asphalt.
You will need about 80 sqft. total to reall eliminate trunk rattle. I highly recommend going with Second Skin Damplifier.
25 sqft. for the trunklid

15 sqft for 2 - 3 layers on the rear deck

40 sqft. for the trunk.

...it's going to run you $200, but the you will have an instantaneous increase in SQ/SPL (about +3dB). $200 might sound high, but an equivalent amount of Dynamat would run you $800. That's right. $800.

I think that indent didn't even start to go away for 5 days. I had two more in the shape of the outside of the roller where it connects to the handle from holding the roller backward to get the deadener into the smaller crevases. Although it left permanent scares, I will def do it on the next car. The benefits outway the negatives.
def go with second skin, i got 100 sq feet of it, and 3 gallons of the sludge, did my whole car, huge difference, not saying u need that much, but if u do anything i would def go with second skin, very great costomer service, and good price
