I am getting a new Maxima this weekend and would like to know what is the mounting depth of the front door speakers? I was hoping to squeeze some Image Dynamics Chameleons(6 1/2's) in the doors. They are 2.8 inches deep. Will they fit without any modification.

If they don't you should still be able to fit them in with some adapter plates or MDF spacers for a little added depth.

 

The maxima speakers are now nonstandard 6.5" round (you'll see what I mean). If you're buying the car and getting the base 4 speaker system, you can "gut" the speakers and mount directly to the bracket after some prep work. If you're leasing and don't want to make permanent modifications, make some custom MDF adapter plates.

Some people have had success mounting directly to the door structure but only with very shallow speakers. Otherwise you'll have problems rolling the windows all the way down.
