I just installed an aftermarket radio in my 96 maxima and during the installation I accidently crossed +12 and ground. I thought I blew only one fuse but when I looked I found 4 or 5 blown fuses. I just bought this car used a couple of weeks ago. I replaced all the blown fuses and I can't find any more. But now the dash board lights and all the illumination lights do not work now. When I say that I mean all the speedameter, tach, AC illumination lights don't light up when I turn my head lights on. Is there something else I am missing? There was a dimmer wire on the stock radio that I just left alone and it's not connected to anything now. Has anyone else installed a new radio in their maxima? Did I possibly miss a blown fuse? Thank you for your time.

My car is older than yours(90) so I am not exactly sure of what is going on. However I did have the same problem in my car, it was one of the fuseable links near the battery. I'm not sure where they would be located on your year but mine was right beside the battery. It could also be a problem with you illumination since that dimmer wire isn't hooked up. I still have problems with mine because the previous owner decided to cut my wires far back into my dash. Check out the fusable links, and make sure that dimmer wire isn't touching anything it shouldn't be. CS

Thanks, I called around and found out that if that dimmer wire gets grounded accidentally it will blow the dimmer switch on the dashboard which is basically a rheostat. It happens this tends to happen alot with nissans and aftermarket stereos.
