I've never heard that from anyone until recently. Anyone ever heard of this? if so how do you "break it in" properly?

Yup. You can tune it, then once you have it tuned, play it at lower volumes. I've never had problems doing it that way. Never blown out a speaker or anything. Lower volumes = 3/4 of what you'd normally play it out when cranking it. Also waiting until the coil is warmed up to turn it up is a good idea when you first have a sub installed.

I break in a recommend breakin in ALL speakers I use/sell. Most manufacturers will say the same.
Yes theyre done at the factory, but then sit on shelves and in boxes for some time.
Think of it this way. Run a marathon, then l;ay in bed for a month. Then run another marathon. Dont strecth or anything else, just up out of bed and start running. Lemme know how it feels.

Speakers aren't living tissue with muscles/tendons that require exercise.

Yes speakers don't have tendons and muscles but they have voice coils and spiders that move, and if they haven't moved for an extended or even moderate amount of time, some break in precautions should take place. Generally after break in a speaker will get louder/change its response vs. how it was when first installed.

On another note i believe you SHOULD break in your speakers....I do just because it gives me a sense of assurance. I remember my first system lol...i played it VERY loud, not paying attention to the retailer telling me to "break it in" first. All of the sudden the bass was GONE. I was like o Came to realize the RCAs came loose hehe....
Break them in with a weeks use everytime now

i think of breaking in a speaker is kind of like preventive maintenance, i mean you wouldn't drive 400 miles in a car that has been sitting in place for a year, you would change the fluids and check it out to make sure everything is fine, same principle here. same concept is applied to new clutches and new brakes, your not going to install these and go to the track or auto cross event the same day...
