Adding Subs to Bose system?

I have tried using the search but I do not have access. I was wondering if there is any way of adding an external amp and subs to an existing factory bose system without having to rip everything out and rewire. It's a 2000 SE.

I would think you should be able to tap into the signal wire from the radio to the amp, and then use a line level convertor for your external amp and speakers.... no? Any help is much appreciated.

Splice Rca's into the outputs from the head unit, do this behind the deck so when you eventually replace the CD player (don't worry eventually you will) The rca's are already run.

To add, you will not need an LOC of any sort with this method.

I don't plan on ever changing the head unit. I'm gonna try and splice into the wires in the back, it'll be easier. I just didnt know if it would mess anything up since its amplified. Thanks guys!

When you say in the back, do you mean back of the HU or back of the car?

The back deck where the amplifier is located. I messed with it a little last night, I took the LOC and hooked it directly to the 2 leads on the subwoofer and I had sound for about 30 seconds. Then the factory sub shut off, and no more input to the amp. I'm wondering if the amp saw an ohm change and went into protection. I would really like to get the signal wires that go into the amp, from the head unit. Does anyone have a diagram, or know the colors?

Tap the signal from the same wires you used at the loc. Those are just low level inputs for the bose amp.

get a high/low impedance adapter, it connects to your door speaker wire then gives you rca's, i had problems with my bose sub cutting out before so i dont know if it messed with mine.

Don't waste your money on that. The bose HU already provides a low level signal!

well I already had a LOC laying around so I didnt spend any money. Maybe you didnt catch my response above... I used the wires that attach directly to the sub, it worked for 30 seconds, then cut off. The factory sub stopped working, and I got no signal to the amp. Mybe the amp went into protection mode?

I am looking for wires that go from the headunit, to the amp. There is one big harness that plugs into the amp, Im sure it has inputs and outputs. I need to know which colors are inputs, so that I can hook the LOC to them, and supply the RCA's to my amp.

Why not take it from behind the HU?

What are you guys talking about when you say "LOC"?? anyways, i have a problem with my factory bose subwoofer cutting off also. why is that?? I bought a line level converter and spliced into the speaker wires in the back of the head unit to get RCA's. But why is my sub cutting off and on when it wants too?? that is, my factory bose sub and my new sub that I installed with my amp? why don't I have a continuous bump? also would an aftermarket cd player fix this?

thanks

LOC=line output converter.

Yea, it's probably your head unit, and if it is, an aftermarket deck would fix it.

Because why run a real long RCA from the headunit to the back when the amp is already back there?

I tapped into the input wires to the amp, used the LOC, and it works great! Hump in my trunk at last.

I used the light green and black and yellow wires.

Because when you change out your HU, your RCA's are already run.
