Tweeter Popping...ARGH!!!!!!!!!

Ok, crap. One of my tweeters is making a horrendous popping noise when played at moderate levels. One tweeter, and one tweeter only. Before I go ripping everything apart, any ideas as to what causes this?

Order:

- Install 3-way setup (passive)
- Use old-skool Alpine HU (no popping...distortion all-around at higher volume levels due to crappy 2V perouts)
- Install Alpine 9833, popping on single tweeter (not whole system)

hmm, gains are re-adjusted for the increased pre-out voltage? but then again it doesn't explain why it's only happening to one tweeter...

The tweeter may be on its way out. I know it sound weird but its possible. How long have you had the tweeter installed? If your running active try raising the HPF on the tweeter.

No. for me. There was a warranty, BUT the warranty expired. Methinks I will be needing to buy a new one. Does Dyn have a single tweet for sale?

I had a similar problem, it was my headunit that was causing the problem. Try switching rca inputs from different channels and see if that causes the same issue.

Alright, that at least gives me something to try. I am not going to get the chance to do this until Monday, let's see if we can shut that sucker up.

If it makes you feel any better, my passenger tweeter gets a very low interference sound when my CC is fan is blowing. Sounds almost like a squeaky fan bearing. I suspect it's because I tapped into the door speaker wire, didn't run new wire.

*tomorrow's task=rewire with new wiring*
