Can you use 1 antenna for both XM and Nav?

My future plans are to add an Alpine NVE-N872A Navigation system to my existing setup, which includes XM already. Can I use the same antenna for both if I get a splitter? Or do I need to have 2 antennas?

Splitter? They exist? Are they both the same type of antenna/wire?

I can't find any splitter, so it may not be possible. It seems like it should be, since there are cars that come with both satellite radio and GPS and I only see 1 antenna. I had hoped someone here who is an installer (like Don) might know if such a thing is possible.

I spoke with Alpine tech support and he said that you cannot use 1 antenna for both because they are on seperate frequencies. I guess the OEM antennas that come with vehicles must be capable of receiving multiple frequencies.

Wait... wouldn't the car come OEM with 2 antennas? Think about it... you can get a car with nav without XM, no? or the other way around...

I know -- at least with the 6th gen -- that you can retrofit XM into a car and not have to touch a single thing related to navigation.

I'd ping Don for an answer... I'm sure if anybody knows, it's him...

I would just stick with it the way it is. No need to be splitting wires. My navi antenna is in the dash, so you don't even see it.
