in my 2003 maxima. is it just me or does this speaker sound worse than the bose did?

did i do something wrong?

also, how do you determine which terminal is + or - (i don't see any markings on the sub)

check to see if that speaker is able to be setup for free air use. I believe that is how the bose is set up. If it does not have the ability for free air use then that sub wont do much.But there are alot more qualified people here that can give you more insight on the topic.

What are you amplifying the Kicker with?

it's a kicker comp. it even says "free-air" on the sub.

Kicker Comp C8's can be mounted in free-air applications. You might be putting too much power into it. They can only handle 100 RMS. Try turning down the gain and set your bass to 0 and see if that helps.

how have you got it tuned? there could be a 100 reasons why it doesn't sound right.. installation, out of phase, tuning, sub is damaged etc..

i was thinking it's out of phase, but i switched the wires already and it doesn't get any better.

Just out of curiosity where are you getting your signal from?

Did you check all the settings on the amp? Make sure no filters are on, then begin with a lpf. Does the kicker amp have an ssf?

Hi i'm a noob thinkin of buying 2 12inch Kicker 06S12L7-2 for my 02 maxima is it ok to leave the bose sub in is it even possiable and will these subs really pound they are running at 750 rms and are going to be slightly overed powered by a 2-channel 800 watts rms Volfenhag ZX7180 2000 Watt(peak) Amplifier is this ok ? oh yeah some of my friends said if you have to much bass that your rear window will drop is this the case with these 2 subs. I'm glad i found this website woot

it's an amp i've used for a while, so i'm pretty much familiar with settings

UPDATE: well, i dynamatted the entire rear deck, the subwoofer plate, AND the seat-belt assys (as shown by housecor). i am thoroughly satisfied with the dynamat and i get NO rattles from the rear deck. i have also decided that the kicker is just a lame subwoofer and really is not a good substitution. i have decided that the only real way to get good bass, is to put a decent set up in your trunk.

You always get what you pay for...

Every sub can be installed in an infinite baffle configuration. The Theile/Small parameters will determine how it will perform. If you want to model it in Unibox or WinISD, just put it in a very large sealed box. I use about 20cf when modeling a trunk IB.

There's plenty of other configurations...no one told you to get the kicker...
