Mounted Sub Box.

I currently have a 2 x 12" Sealed sub box in the trunk of my 99. It moves around everywhere. I also have my amp and capacitor screwed to the back of the sub box, which faces the seats. The subs face outwards (towards the rear bumper). How do you guys mount your sub boxes to your car? I have made a whole wood layout once, but it was too heavy for me. I needed something lighter, so I am back to nothing. Ideas? Pics?

Thanks

I have the same question. I heard something about a "KSport Mod" a while back, but wasn't sure how to do it.

This is exactly what I have in my car. I got the hook bolts and metal rubber covered wiring @ home depot and made some holes in the back of the box with a dremel. ran the wire through and tied them to a couple of holes behind the rear fenders, close to where the back shocks hook up and that are covered by the trunk carpet....no problems as of yet. Glad I did it because I had it loose for about a year and in ruined my amp by breaking the connectors and who knows what else. mounts perfect too..

No, I just tied it all the way back really tight and it levels out towards the back of the trunk, close to the pass thorugh hole..

i also have the same problem. 2x10" subs. the thing has driven me nuts since day one. every time i turn it moves. i had cut 2 blocks into the shape of an L before and mounted that with screws to the spare tire cover(wood thing i dunno). that was alright but it looked like ****. i need to figure out a way to remove the box easily tho in case of a flat. i dont really understand the I hooks and wire idea. can u put up some pictures?

buy some small metal L-brackets and screw them to the box and to the floor of the trunk. I used these when installing a system in a friends car, you can make it look very clean and professional

This is very good to and I wanted to do it like this but decised not to because my box is pretty heavy and with some corners I take I didn't want to risk breaking the spare tire wood cover and having the box flying around, so I decided to drill to holes in my box and not on my floor, But I think either way will work just fine...

i like the l-bracket idea. I'm planning on making a custom box that goes along the back seat as a "flush wall" style and bolting it in.

fills out the lower end of regester nicly, itl shake youre car if you let it

for an IB sub it really pounds, if you really like loud bass you would want to go with a 10" (just barly fitts)

Yeah, cuz honestly I wouldn't mind going back to the stock Bose, but with this setup. Nice job man, do you think it will work just as good if you had a sealed box instead of putting it on the passthrough hole?

well you need a sub that will sopport "Infiniate Baffel" this menas you can get away withouth using a box, the trick is sealing the trunk good with dyno matting and silicone so it will ack like a sealed box,
It would be lounder with a box(and I thought about a small fiberglass box for the sub) but this soudns great for me,

All of elemental Designs subs sopport "I.B." and are great for sound

If you dontuse a "I.B." sub itl soudns like A$$

I took the cardboard spare cover out and screwed a 2' long 2x4 to it. I put a smaller strip of wood under the cardboard so the screws had something to grab.
Then just put the cover back and put the carpet over it. Can't even tell its there and it holds the sub box nicely it doesnt move at all.

Yeh I went the hook route in my cobra. Had a problem with the box swooshing around while autoxing. No problems after the hooks.

Hey can someone link me to directions to replacing the stock non bose HU on a 97 maxima? I would search but all my functions have been disabled because I havent posted in a long time. Thanks guys.

hahaha, good luck on the custom trunk. Our trunk is the most odd shape. Nothing is flat or square. I had fun with that. I dont recommend using 1/2" MDF, its really heavy and shows from the outside.

One thing that works if you're not doing too much crazy cornering is velcro on the floor and the bottom of the box. If you're moving around too much it might start coming loose, but otherwise it isn't too hard to get out, is cheap, and should keep it from moving around for the most part. If you are waiting to do something else, this is a good temporary solution.

went from this:

to this:

yuo can see the little L bracket I have on the enclosure. If you want..you can do the wood board as a platform (if you think it'll look ghetto, carpet it). It's fairly simple...this was my first time doing this kinda fabrication/carpeting.
to cover everything I have a baffle/bezel to cover everything but the subwoofer to clean up the look.

Actually this looks very nice, especially painted black, but my questions id what is holding the wood in place? Did you screww that into the spare tire cover? Also is that a custom box? what size is the sub?

for you lazy people:

I ahve something simiilar..the board ontop of the spare tire cover drilled into the trunk in my car. I used to have my subbox screwed into that through the carpet. Now i have the platform screwed onto that board and now the subwoofer screwed onto the platform.
