I just bought this sub, and plan on installing it IB on my rear deck. I can't wait for it to get here, too bad Image Dynamics doesn't have more retailers. Has anyone put this sub on their rear decks...can you still use the stock bose grill over the top of the sub and 1/2 inch mdf mounting bracket?? Thanks!

The grille mounts to the rear deck itself, so you *should* be fine.

hate to break it to you, but i tried this already...

the sub doesn't fit in the factory subwoofer plate. i tried to **** with MDF but to no avail. the BOSE grill requires full clearance and the only way i can think of mounting MDF is from beneath because you'd have A LOT of cutting and trimming to get it to fit from on top. the best fit i've heard of is kicker comps.

i have spoken to the tech team at sound splinter and they also claim that their 8" RL-i can work in infinite baffle. i'm not sure if it fits though either.

What exactly were your attempts with MDF?

It will work. I have personally done it, with that exact sub, with the stock bose plate without clearance issues, utilizing the Bose grill as well. All you need is a 1/2" MDF ring. Mount it to the top of the Bose plate and then mount the sub to the ring. Done.

I think the only thing that remains in that car is the rear speakers and the HU. He has done a ton of upgrading since then.

There is now a DLS OA 10" in the same location. Arc amps. DLS 3 way for the front stage.

You want the trunk to be completely sealed off from the cabin, so you seal them off with deadener, wood, foam, etc etc.

With screws

I think it sounded great. It def outperformed the previous 8"s he had hands down. Good luck with the OA 8"s, I am sure you will like them.

Although we didn't add any deadener to the actual trunk, owners choice, we completely sealed of the top of the rear deck. As long as the seats were up, there was no audible cancellation that I could tell. The "sealing off" is just a do your best to eliminate the rear wave from the front wave. You can't really do it 100%, just pay particular attention to the rear deck and all the little holes in it. Any additional deadener you doin the trunk will be icing onthe cake.

As far as the Bose plate goes, first I removed the Bose subwoofer from the plate, then measured the diameter of the sub from one side of the surround to the other(not the outside diameter) to get my cut out diameter. We took a piece of 1/2" wood and I marked out the circles(cut inside circle first, then outside) and took 4 screws and mounted them to the plate, then I deadened the entire plate covering the ring and everything( I believe there are pics of that) and then mount the sub. It is easier to mount the sub before you mount the plate back in the stock location as it is easier to get to the srews for mounting the sub, this is not possible in all applications as the depth of the sub will exceed the room between the rear window and the rear deck. Then put everything back together. Hope this helps.

ook, got sub, amp, and new 4ga wiring run from battery to distributor block in trunk...then ran two 8 ga wires...off the distributor block...one to sub amp, and one to 4ch speaker amp....got some mdf from home depot, making bracket as we speak...the only hard part was running a 4ga wire and 3 pairs of rca wires down the drivers side of the car, and still getting the trim pieces to snap back in...and I know I shoulda ran power down right and rcas down left, but when best buy installed my stuff they drilled hole on drivers side...so I made do. No wonder bose sub sucks, just taking it out, it weighs literally about <5 pounds, the new 8in ID sub...probably closer to 10-15. I will post pics later or if people want to see..

Ok folks all done!!! The bad news is I can't find anyplace to mount the second amp. Anyone know where a good place to mount an amp is? I have a 4 channel already on the back of the left seats so there is no room for a second amp. Anyways here are some pics of the install..Thanks again for everyones advise on getting an ID subwoofer. Sounds great, but it just needs some breaking in.

Looks good, and I'm not just talking about the icy cold Corona with lime.

Is there a grill that goes over that? That would look better. I'm also a stickler for having the brand/logo on the sub faced the right way, but no big deal. Any deadening of the rear deck and sealing off of the cabin and trunk would only help. Be sure to flip phasing just to see which sounds better.

Good job enjoy the ID.

Ya I like the logo facing that way too, but when I lined up the sub to drill the holes, I forgot that the holes aren't evenly spaced all the way around. And on top of that the terminals wouldn't fit right up next to the backseat. It sounds good..wayyy too much rear deck rattling though. I think Im going to dynamat it soon. Anyone know of a good place to mount an amp in the trunk?
