New bump in the trunk

Well as I posted about a month ago I had an image dynamics IDmax develop a V.C. problem. While waiting/pricing getting it fixed I ended up getting a great deal on a 12" Bob Carver signature sunfire subwoofer (usually used in H.T. setups). Right now its sitting in the 1.5cu' sealed box I used for the max, and only getting ~500wrms from a Hifonics bx1500d. This thing is arguably the nicest, and loudest sub I've ever worked with (high end experience very limited). But I can say without a doubt I like it better than the IDmax, and thats off the dirty power I'm giving it now. But in the mail is a Modified Arc Audio 1500dr Its modded to do ~1400wrms @ 4ohm with ugraded sterling silver xover, and the tripath processor was upgraded (all done by Arc). Should be the perfect amp for this sub.

Heres some pics of the sub compared to the IDmax:

Very nice, and very interesting. Let us know how it goes with the Arc.

I wonder if the ID was in the proper box? I'm surprised the new sub craps on it. The ID def. looks alot meaner.

Yea I was extremely surprised at how well this sub performs. You can never find one of them in their powered H.T. setups for under $1000 used, and it does have Bob Carver's name on it.
If i don't sell the IDmax before I send it to get fixed I'd love to compare them with the exact same power.

And Nismo the Max was in the perfect sealed box, 1.5cu' (pre-displacement) 3/4" MDF all around, double thick face, all seems double chaulked. And I was pushing the max with ~1000wrms, the gains were set using an O-scope to ensure no clipping. It blew because someone borrowing my car decided to "see what the system could do".

The sunfire amps used to push them in their 12cu" H.T. enclosures are rated at 2700wrms @3.3ohm so I figure ~1400wrms in an enclosure 1.5x the size should **** pretty well.

Sounds like the ID didnt hold up in the sq dept with that much power in a big box eh?

It was pretty good, problem is I don't know anyone around here with anything that sounded better. So I had nothing else SQ wise in a similar system to compare it to. Just the sick SQ sponsored cars at a few shops which were way above my current level.

Also forgot to mention, at ~500wrms this sub sounds worse sq and spl wise than the IDmax, but when I put a JL 1000/1 (1000wrms@40hm) on it is when it started to shine and its potential shined through.

It has a one way xmax of just over 1" (alittle more than the idmax). And seems to bee eating up the higher wattages where as with the IDmax it seemed to barely increase after about 600wrms. I also think I like the sound of the flat cone over the standard V shaped cone of the idmax and most woofers.

Ascendant, the Max didn't fry, just a voice coil came missaligned, it still has full movement, just sounds terrible. After a recone it'll be good as new. I'm selling it for $150 plus shipping (ID quoted me $95 to fix it). If I don't sell it in the next 4 days (payday) I'm sending it to ID to be fixed and keeping it.

This statement makes me think that your first post is rather misleading. Had you ever tried the ID on the JL amp? What were your impressions then? Different cars with different setups will sound different. It's possible that even with the new sub, with the arc amp, the ID would still sound better. If, of course you tried the ID on the JL and the Carver sounded better, then thats a good basis for measuring.
