Midrange 6.5" Recommendations

Hey Everybody! I was hoping to get some feedback about your experiences with different midrange 6.5" speakers. I'm planning on upgrading all four of my mids, but I'm getting frustrated at all the options and lack of objective information. I hate going to local audio shops because they only try and sell you their own favorite product and they bash all the others.

My price range is up to $250 / pair. I've been looking at Alpine & Kicker so far. I want to get the absolute best bang for the buck. Thanks!

More than likely just coaxials....probably just 2-ways, but if anyone has another suggestions, I'd be open. Thanks

Why not do components? are you set on coaxials? Are wanting only to spend 200 or is that per set? If that is per set I would say buy a nice set of components and forget about doing rears. I would say Rainbow Germainums if you up your spending just a tad, OZ's, CDT's I even heard a little birdie on here is carrying Hertz!!! cough cough ( Don)

on getting a good set of components for now, and run a small amp maybe. you'd be much happier.. imaging will be much better and it'll be much louder.

I would also like to throw in a suggestion for Memphis Audio components. They sound great, especially for the price.

Simply stated you can get a set of components and a set of coaxials that would fall well within your budget, however at some point you'd want to amp them.

Rainbow slc 265 + sl165's would be roughly $370.

You guys are throwin' out some names I've never heard of...rainbow for one. I'll look into those...don't know if anyone in my area sells them. Thanks

I guess the reason I didn't mention components is I'm not sure how or where I'd mount the tweeter. If I found that it would be something easy to do, I wouldn't rule it out. BTW, I do hope to add a an amp at some point in the future.

Approximately $200 per set/pair. I suppose if I could get a good pair for the front that sounded great, I could live without rears. I can always add them later if I want.

you really don't need rear fill. Do a nice set of components the mid would go in door and you can put the tweet in the sail panel, top of door or the a pillars.

That would be ideal, but I'm clueless when it comes to mounting a tweet. How easy is? Maybe I've been missled, but I'm assuming it requires drilling holes in my piller or door. Can anyone fill me in on a how-to? I'm really trying to avoid paying a stereo shop to do this. I'd love to learn myself.

Thanks ALOT for all the suggestions so far & keep 'em coming!

It's not to hard to install the tweets since the A pillars should already house the stock tweets (depends on year of car, 4th Gens are real easy to do). Not too sure how it is done on the I30s but should be the same as a Max. We can walk you through the process when you are ready to install. A nice component set will definitely make a difference in the interior sound and can improve imaging 100% if setup properly. Some people run rear fills, others don't. This has been a debate for a while now. It's all according to what you like. I have rear fills but my fronts overshadow them. I can still hear them but it's mostly for my passengers, my fronts are aligned enough that I rarely have my rears turned on.

You may have to come to one of meets here in KC area and we can help you. Or next weekend me and another max from KC will be at USAC world finals in KC I would be more than happy to spend some time helping with questions. Plus I will have a special guest that is very knowlegible as well.
