Front speakers that can run off of the HU (no external amp)?

I am looking to upgrade the speakers in my 2003 Sentra. They are a 6.5 or 6.75 speaker, but they have to be a fairly shallow mount in order to fit in the front doors.

Because I am on a budget, I want to upgrade one thing at a time. I want to do a small sub first (have it already- need to install) and to add new front speakers, followed by a new HU. The rears don't have to ever change out, really.

I have a stock Nissan audio setup- no external factory amps on the regular speakers. I will be disconnecting the stock sub, and want something up front that will sound okay and will (hopefully) fit in the stock locations. I would prefer some efficient components that can use the stock locations, but will settle for some coaxials. (If I do coaxials, should I keep the stock tweeters hooked up?) Everything is just basic- think Non-Bose in the Maxima world.

I would like something that provides good sound for the money- I don't need the best- just what sounds good off of HU power and is reasonably priced.

I imaginr that this means efficient components or a good set of coaxials. Is there ANY brand/model of coaxials that could be run off of a headunit's built-in amplification?

I used to be into audio in a big way. I have had systems in decent cars (not beaters) that were worth more than the cars, and I always had very balanced systems. I want something that is balanced- I am no longer a basshead or SQ freak. To give you an idea of what sound I liked, I used to run MB Quart or Infinity Kappa components on 200WPC RMS RF amps (back when RF amps were clearly the best) and for bass, I ran everything from single 10s to (4) 8"s to different single and double 12" setups. Now, I just want something that sounds clean.

its pretty tough to find components that are going to play up to their potential wihtout an external amp.. you'd be hardpressed to find a set, seriously. If you arent ever planning on amping your front stage, i'd just go with some decent coaxials.

IF you are however, i highly suggest (as many others will) taking a look at Rainbow SLC's, you can get them from Don for ~$230 shipped. thats less than a set of type R comps, and they sound a butt load better..

I don't think you'll find what you're looking for very easily. You have depth constraints and require something very efficient to run off of stock power. I would say get something like a low end pioneer that has a very high sensitivity or even... (please don't ban me for saying this ) some infinity kappa comps.

I'm not looking for world-class sound. I think that the real question is, do I underpower components and keep my stock door/A-pillar configuration, or do I just go coaxials and give up the tweeters? OR do I put coaxials in the doors AND add a set of tweets with passve in-line crossovers? I HATE to lose the nice positioning of the a-pillar tweets, but I also don't want to horribly underpower components.

What i really need is some efficient components that are capable but not superb. If I canot find those, I am leaning toward some good, efficient coaxials and just giving up the a-pillar tweets.

Check out the low-end pioneer comps, I believe they come in at around ~90 db sensitivity.
