how should i install my focals?
prior to purchasing them i was thinking of making kick panels out of mdf and fiber glass (body filler to smooth out the edges) now after reading it's owners manual thinga ma popper.. it says to mount the tweets in clear sight of the ear for best sound quality.. i want best sq and also great sound imaging.. i know that kicks would do great for sound imaging but what hsould i do? i know if i make kicks they'll be huge because i got teh focal utopia 165w3 so i was planning on putting all three components in each corner and nothing in the doors.. for the rears i'm just gonna stuff everything int he doors, and build a custom enclosure.. gonna build the rear door panels out. any suggestions? or should ijust play it by ear.. i'm tryign to just do this in one install rather than experimenting.. i've done that way too many times..
MING!!!!! You disapoint me. Why can't anyone get some Dyn's?
Personally I would put the tweet and midrange in a kick panel, and the woofer in the door. If you play around with a baffle, you can aim the woofer some to image it, but the most important driver to image is the mid. I would put the tweeter there as well.....

kicks it is then... thanx to the both of you for your very great inputs.. i can't wait til i get these suckers to work.. any of you running eq's? i'm planning on getting the eqt 30 band mono eq from audiocontrol does 230 a side sound right?? i wanna see if i can get it down to 200 per side since i dont' have all that muhc money lef.t
Well, if you had done with the Dyns, you would have had no problems putting the tweets in the dor, but oh well.
As far as an EQ goes, I don't have one. I ( This of course is my opinion) wouldn't get the EQTs.And ya, $230 sounds right. I think it's overkill for a higher end speaker like the Utopias. I would save some cash and just get an EQL or EQX. I think 15 bands is plenty if you want EQ. I might get one and mount it behind the rear seat armrest. Good luck and take pics!!!!!!!!!!1

i knwo i'm going to lose even more sleep over this once my amp comes in.. it's long and shiny... i think i'll sleep with it laying next to my bed the day i bring it home... hrmff.. i really want to hear your tube drivers.. i've heard great things about tube drivers.. just don't liek the fact that it needs to be warmed up.. just doesn't seem right..
I'll be very honest, you don't even really hear a warm up time. I've not noticed it. Come on down to FL. and I'll let you hear them.
The new Tube Driver Blue is the one I really want. The Tubes glow BLUE, and they have said they sound as good as the Milbert amps, with hella more power......

Ok Mingo. This is what i recommend: woofers in the doors that is completely sound deadened and sealed with acoustic mats. Speaker should be mounted on a thick rigid mdf baffle. Get some kicks built for the mid and the tweeter. You won't regret it, trust me. Also, you will want to modify your factory speaker grilles as they block quite a bit of sound. I made mine with speaker grille cloth and plywood.
Good luck and don't listen to their opinions, you have one of the best car speakers on God's green earth.

Ming, with your system, You have to think about sound treatment. You won't be getting everything you could from the system if you dont. It'll rattle like a bastard. At least consider using carpet padding bewteen the door and the panel to help some. Cheapskate
