great idea for hard wiring escort x50 8500

I had a great idea today about hard wiring my escort x50 8500. My radar has the smart cord with the mute button and I use it all the time but I hate the fact that it is plugged into my cig lighter. So what I was thinking is use the stock smart cord cable and remove the clock and run the wire down through there and then open the cig lighter housing for the 8500 and hard wire power and ground and then on the circuit board wire an external momentary button for the remote mute button. and mount it to the right of the shifter trim in my car there is a black panel there. So at this point the radar will be hard wired through the dash and you will still have your mute button. I'll do this and post picture

Why not just hardwire it to the rearview mirror like most of us? Much easier installation and the detector remains hidden because it is above the mirror.

not everyone likes the radar all the way up there because when you have a loud system you cant hear the radar so you have to be able to see it at all times

I would love to replace the clock and put my radar there, but it wouldnt work very well. I had it hidden behind my rearview mirror for a while but i noticed that it wasn't alerting me in places it used to ( much decreased performance ). So now I just have it in the middle of my windshield for everyone to see.

I'm about to rewire it more specifically for my V1 so that i have a small button on my turn signal stalk that will mute it when taped, and i will have a concealed display somewhere....but when i do that i'll post pics

no, sorry for the confusion, thats a power switch button, its also switched with the ignition, but currently there is no mute other than on the unit. Soon however that will all change atleast for my V1

Best of luck
