looking at subs..any ideas? (besides ascendant :)

i only have about 300 watts at 4 ohms to work with.. and bridged ohms at that so no 2 ohm here. i was wondering what you guys thought might fit the bill. I was previously considering an 8" assassin IB but since i'm not exactly sure how much longer i'll have the max... i might rather go with a 10 or 12 although aa is still a strong candidate. anyway what I'm looking at is 300 watts wired 4 ohms, looking mostly for sq and overall value. also in consideration is the box type.. etc. all input welcome, thanks

I have an Rf HX2 dual 2 ohm you'll get quite a bit of output from that.... 300 watts is plenty as long as their good quality 300 watts.

You may find what your looking for in DLS' offerings too..... If you give a budget I'm sure there's a few people who could come up with somethin for ya.

well as far as the budget goes.. i'm pretty open on the price.. anything up to i'd say 150 is ok for a single sub, especially if its a 12 because then i'll already have a box useable for it. but any suggestions on the setup.. size recommended? sealed vs. ported?

(forgot to add anything under 150 is definately ok.. 150 is absolute max. 100 or less would be awesome)

well thats sealed.. just an old custom one. it would eventually be replaced, but i dont want to lay down more than 150 at once for this so i would end up building one to spec after a while, either ported or sealed..

I can do $135 shipped for my hx2, looks brand new. Its a hot sub. Sounds sick, very nice in a sealed box but LOTS of output ported.

What about some bostons? The 12.5lf can be had for about 125 and is prob one of the most musical subs I think I have ever heard.

TC Sounds has the dB500 12" on sale for for $75. It's a TC2+ motor, stamped steel basket and two-piece aluminium cone. It's VERY similar to the driver that they used to supply SVS to put in their PC+ and CS+ home sub systems.

Not sure. Tuning will tell me a lot, but I am not blown away by the IDQ 10.

CONSIDERING yanking the rear 6.5"s and using 2 6.5 "subs" or just 6.5" mids and deleting the sub/box combo altogether.

I heard an explorer with a set of well-installed and well-tuned 6.5 comps and no subs. I was amazed by the sound. He had the doors properly deadened and had 75W going to each speaker.

If not, i may pull the IDQ and try another sub.

I have a Pioneer 10" that would be good with a sealed box. Versatile sub and it pounds. It's the old school diamondplate version, I am still to this day tryin to find one in a 12". But anyways if you want that I can let it go cheap. $45 shipped.

for $75 you can't get anything better than the tc sounds, right now mainstream can't touch the performance value of internet companies like tc, soundsplinter, fi car audio, AA, ED, RE,

I've wanted to hear a soundsplinter for some time, but never met anyone that carries them. They look pretty awesome and the price certainly isn't bad.

And you won't find anyone except Mike at Soundpslinter or Kyle at Acoustic-Visions. They are internet direct. That's why the price is like that. Send it through retail channels and the price goes up at least 50%.

If you want to hear something close, listen to a high end Eclipse sub. They are built in the same factory by the same people.

In all reality you can use any size sub IB, as long as it's suited for it or has the proper characteristics. ID has a 15 that can be used IB, Dayton audio also does.

You could do whatever you can fit on there really. So if you don't htink you can fit a 15 then a 12 can be done, you just have to bolster it up well with mdf or other materials that is structurally sound enough to handle the weight.

Link to any past threads? Sorry for being a pain just interested in making space in the trunk. Dont mean to threadjack btw.
