I would also like to know the same thing. Also, I've been looking around and has there ever been a definite answer on the size of the rear door speakers in Bose equiped 5.5 gens? I have a couple of good 6.5s in the front doors of my Blazer that I will be trading for a Maxima SE and would like to put them in there.

6.5's all around in our maximas.

many have replaced theirs with Ascendant Audio's, Kicker's, Image Dynamics, etc. and some have even used the factory bose amp to power it, though you really should get an a/m amp for proper power..

Here is a link to my install. I replaced the Bose sub with a Pioneer Freeair sub and added an amp.

Thanks for the info. I'm on a college student's budget so I am planning on using what I already have:

Crossfire SQ6s for the front doors and tweeters
Crossfire 6.5s in the back doors
2 Crossfire BMF10s powered by a 600D Amp
Crossfire VR302 amp powering the fronts and/or possibly the 8"
Pioneer DEH-P7500MP
Still need: 8" free air sub on the back deck

I'm wondering though, will the 8 and the two 10s be too much? I'm more concerned with sound quality than going for SPL. Any opinions?

^The only reason there is confusion on speaker size is because the plastic baffle for the Bose rears makes a 5.25 fit, but by taking that out and mounting the speaker to the metal, every 5th gen has a 6.5 back there.

MaxGirl, if you're getting subs in a box, just remove the 8" stock sub, or just disconnect it. It'll probably ruin your imaging if you do anything else.

Thanks for the responses! The 10s are coming out of my Blazer but are acutally in boxes set up for a '00 Silverado, probably should fix that. I didn't really want to use the 8" anyway since I want my amp to power the speakers and don't really like the sound of an 8. Should I leave the stock 8 in there unplugged or take it out and plug the hole or leave it open?

leave it open if you want more bass...if not close it up to help prevent rear deck rattle.

If you don't take it out your bass will sound trapped ...

For free air subs Assassin's did well for me.

TC Sounds has just released a limited amount of their overstock 10" TC 7's. The Thiele/Small parameters make it a perfect fit for a rear deck install.
