....From BOSE to Two Single DIN systems...Scosche = CRAP

started with this:

NN1494B from Scosche

My Innovatek 715ql flip out wouldnt fit...neither would my JVC KD-DV6200 Deck....

after some cutting and sanding (but not yet painting)

I have this:

at night:

From the back:

JUST TO LET PEOPLE KNOW....if you are trying to mount 2 SINGLE DIN DECKS...you will have to do some serious working on the SCOSCHE 1494....

Why did you use the trim piece for the tuner? You could have mounted it without the trim and forgone the cutting. I have used this kit with no problems. Oh well...

Just another reason why the Scosche trim sucks.

LOL....not all decks are the same size....once I realized that even without the trim the JVC deck was slightly too big...I decided to use the trim piece and integrate it since the cutting had to be done anyway

your profile says you have a 4th gen? How did you use the 1494 kit in the 4th gen? Or was it mounted in a different car?

I also purchased the Scosche kit and attempted to install it in place of the Metra. I was really looking forward to color matched Scosche dash.

Anyhow, to get the Scosche to work, you literally have to redrill new screw hole locations in the stock metal bracket, per the instructions. I actually read them this time They include a template that isn't worth **** cause it does not match up with any of the factory bracket holes. If you don't do this and attempt to use the factory location, the unit will sit too high and the Scosche dash plate will not fit over it properly.

After measuring and drilling and other crap, I got completely frustrated and put the Metra kit back in.

Scosche is crap! Unless you have the patience and pure desire to redrill new holes.

Is this only the case for double din installs? Single din should go smoothly right?

Oh no! Single DIN. Can't mount it in the upper or lower without freaking redrilling the stock bracket.

SCHOSCHE GETS THE "STUPID FKN IDIOTIC DESIGN" AWARD from me.

And all I wanted was a cheap alternative to getting a color matched dash. Anyone figure out what the stock dash color actually is?

Patience is key, and the kit can actually look decent. Not saying its not a PITA, but its Scosche, what do you expect. The pins fall right out of their wiring harnesses, Id expect no less from their dash kits.

Kev everytime I see those pictures I think to myself that you must have the patience of a saint. I despise that kit.

No clue...this kit went on like 3 years ago and got it from a fellow maxima owner new. it looks better in person than those pix in terms of color matching.

The kit is very poor quality when it comes to fitment and finish....this has been corroborated by other buyers of the kit in this thread.

// DONE.

Rich is **** and expects nothing less. Plus, my patience increases during side jobs like Rich's, when Im not dealing with retards walking into CC interrupting my install plus answering the shop phone.

Besides having to drill new holes on the metal brackets ,the scosche kit matched my car perfectly both in fit and color.

Just to reiterate, this thread was for a DOUBLE din dash kit. Not single. Scosche kit is easier to work with in a single din setup...but still not as easy as others.
