$5 e-dollars for anybody who can name it

I'll be using an older RF 250w RMS amp, but I hear it's underrated. Recommended box size is between .25 cu ft to 1 cu ft. I'm thinking somewhere around .75, but am not sure yet. Any thoughts on box size?

Yeah, those marks aren't visible under normal light. I just wiped a little dust off the cone, so maybe you're seeing earlier finger prints....

I tried searching the DIYMA forum, but couldn't find anything, so I'll ask here.

I was told there is a break-in procedure for this/any sub. I never did anything like this on my old subs, and was wondering what you guys did for the burn-in/break-in process? Tips?

EDIT- From what I just found, it seems people recommend playing the sub at low volumes for anywhere between 20-50 hours. Is this similar to what you guys have heard?

funky magnet(s) design.

If its like any other speaker, just play at moderate levels until it breaks in, ie the surround gets loose and such.

So for about a week, dont crank it.

any advantages using an circular magnet array such as that over the conventional slugs? motor strength seems pretty average.

Like Don said if you want sheer output with some musicality FL, if you want good musicality with reduced output this might be an option... Tough call really, imo anyways.

So Don, it looks like you are saying that he should go with the high-side recommendation as far as enclosure volume. Will that help with musicality or output?

My best guess is that it will get about 350-400, based on the birth sheet from that amp. As far as I can tell, he wants optimum output from the sub without severely compromising quality.

Nick has selected the speaker package that you recommended to me. I just cheaped out on it.

Different drivers perform differently in different sized enclosures.

My sp12 for instance is meant for a ported box but it sounds phenomenal in a 1.25 cu ft sealed box. Again it's not even recommended to be used sealed.

Some drivers will like less air space some will require a lil more, this is all vs the manufacturer's spec..... Some will sound better with less (generally not the case) and most/many will sound better with larger than recommended enclosures.

Output and overall tonality. Ive seen those in various enclosures and 1cf seems to suit em the best. Thats plenty of power for one of those..

^^^^^^^^

Thanks, guys. I have a 1.25 per side sealed box that I was going to cut in half and give to nick. I can just cut a little more than half off of it and put a new endcap on it.

Nothing beats "free" when it comes to enclosures!
