Alpine AMPs Old or New?

i found a Alpine V12 MRV-F407 at a pawn shop.. fully working and everything for $79.99... but i was looking at a newer model... The MRP-250.

The V12 MRV-F407 has
Output Power at 12.0V (20Hz ∼ 20kHz):
4 x 40W @ 4 ohms (0.04% THD)
4 x 50W @ 2 ohms (0.3% THD)
2 x 100W @ 4 ohms Bridged (0.3% THD)
Output Power at 14.4V (20Hz ∼ 20kHz):
4 x 60W @ 4 ohms (0.04% THD)
4 x 80W @ 2 ohms (0.3% THD)
2 x 160W @ 4 ohms Bridged (0.3% THD)
Freq. Response: 10Hz ∼ 50kHz (+0/-1 dB)
S/N Ratio: 105dBA (at rated power)

while the MRP-F250

RMS Power (at 14.4V THD+N, 20Hz-20kHz)

Per channel into 4 ohms: 40W x 4 (0.08% THD)
Per channel into 2 ohms: 50W x 4
Brigded 4 ohms: 180W x 2

Which one would be best? im looking to power component speakers...

Get the V12 series the MRV, they have variable crossovers. MRP has fixed crossover points except their mono amps.

oh ok, good.. hahah.. i was looking around.. and i saw a JLAudio E6450 6CH.. which i was DEFINATELY going to buy (or put on layaway.. short on cash..) but i tested it in my car.. and it didnt even power on! so i was like damn.. that was a good amp gone to waste.. and then i saw a V12 amp.. and was thinking to myself.. isnt that like alpine's top-of-the-line series..? and i put it on layaway.. it was either that or the MRP-F250.. and they had very close ratings.. so i was like pretty indicisive(sp?) so i ended up going with the V12MRV-F407..

I competed with the V series amps from alpine and I never had any problems with them They are really a little under rated, I belive for 80 bucks you cannot go wrong!

i have that exact amp(mrv-f407), was in my old eclipse powering 6x9s and boston comps 6.5LF, getting ready to put it and 2 sets of the 6.5LFs in me new maxima. I love the amp and have had no problems with it. I also have 2 mrv-t757 powering 2 Boston Competitor 12s. Its all gonna be in the max soon, cant wait.

Fixed it!!!!

Hey,
I just got an Alpine Mrv-T757 V12 2ch amp doing the same thing. I know this thread is dead but for anyone else with the same problem, I found the fix. I did a lot of research and came across this thread. It is an open circuit from the RCA signal ground to the amp ground. To fix it, I removed the back cover and soldered a wire from both (-), or outside of the RCA connects, to the main amp ground wire input. Put the back cover back on, power up, and presto... Protection light is green. I hope this helps someone else because these are great amps.
