power antenna

i have a 98 4th gen with a power antenna. i had a 6800 in it but the deck broke and i never had tha radio hooked up in it.I also have aftermarket speakers and my own wiring to them with their own amp. Now i have a pioneer 3900 and i bought the radio adapter and i get reception but it is so poor and my antenna is never up. Is there any way i can get the antenna to go up and down with the radio because when i had ths stock deck in it went up and down. I was also wondering if i would be able to run a switch to the power antenna and be able to raise it and lower it when i feel/

that def can be done as far the switch goes, just need to intercept the power wire and loop the switch on that, interupting power to what ever power wire raises the antenna.

Lots of misinformation in this thread. You need to hook up the power antenna wire so that it will go up and down. If you want to control it, all you have to do is put a switch inline that wire, but why, when the radio turns it on and off when it's required?

Hooked it up to what? Did you test the wire? Sure the motor is still good?

you probably hooked it up wrong. 90% of aftermarket head units have a blue wire comeing out of it, its remote on. that will turn your antena on. make sure its kicking voltage. and you hooked it to the right wire in the dash. did you get a wire harness for it? so you can plug it into the factory harness? either way, why you using regular radio? buy a sirius and call it a day. that or use cd's.

on my pioneer which is brand new there in no attenae up down wire so it just goes up when you turn the radio on and no it is wired up corectly so I see why he was looking for an alternative way to do things.

I have the mini-amp to get the bose system to work with a pioneer deh-4800mp and also a regular amp to my subwoofer. I had to splice the remote line twice to create 3 lines, one for each of the above and a third for the line "power antenna". The antenna goes up every time the head unit is on, not just the radio, I will probably put a switch in so I can control the power antenna myself. But yes, it will work.

I'm so glad I have a 5th gen and no power antenna. That thing was a noisy pain in my a$$.

And it broke, and it was a paint to fix.
