Major problem with 790XV

For the past 2 weeks or so intermittently the remote would not send a signal to the car to unlock, lock, start, etc. My way around this was to manually open the car with the key alarm blaring and then the remote would finally work.

Today the same thing happened so I opened the door and hit the remote and nothing, no signal nothing. The alarm kept going off it went off twice before I unscrewed the positive cable.

Don wasn't available via phone so I quickly put the alarm in valet mode by pressing the valet button once and then holding it with key in on position the alarm finally stopped blaring.

I now have the antenna disconnected and am hoping to have the issue resolved after I plug it in in 15-20 mintues.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Don I also left you a v.mail.

On the phone you told me that the valet button didnt work. Now your saying it did work??

Who is making you think unplugging the antenna will change anything?

The valet button did not work the way you had described. I had to push it once and then push it and hold it for a few seconds in order to put it in valet while the alarm was blaring.

No one is making me think unplugging the antenna will help it was just my assumption that it might help.

In any event I had a NEW spare 791XV remote that had never been used. I programmed this and will hope the problem does not persist. As of now it is working. I will inform you of any other issues as they arise. Thank you.

Sounds like it was a dead battery in the remote.

if reporgramming/new batt doesnt work then it sounds like a defective headunit or a remote on its way out. 1 year parts warranty FTL

you are generous. DEI dealers around here dont even stand behind the 1 year, let alone anything past that.

So far the new remote has been good. If it fails again it's definitely the brain.

It may or may not be a good assumption but it's the only feasible and logical one I can think of considering the situation.

How is that feasible and logical? Failure rate of the brains themselves are Very rare.

You know the statistics better than I do so I'll take your word on the cause being the remote. This will be my third remote by the way. What causes them to go bad?

I had 2 brains go bad within the first year of own my Viper alarm.

And I had 1 remote go bad.

Aside from that. If you drop the remote its going to stop working eventually. It will do the same when its in your pants (no homo) There is lint and other crap that can get into the remote and make buttons harder to press.

Just my thought....

I think you just have really bad luck.

I still have customers rtunning the original beta White/Gray remotes from '02 time, stored in their pocket and work fine.

Don, my alarm is acting up again. The same way as described above. It is not the remotes as this one is brand new and the other one is not very old. I can reprogram these remotes on another car and I'm 100% positive they will work.

I disconnected my antenna for 2 seconds and plugged it back and the remote started working again. So yes unplugging and plugging the antenna back in does do something at least it has in my case.

Then I will remove it and send it in. If the problem remains then you will know its your remotes.

You should certainly call DEI and all of their dealers, because this unplugging the antenna is something that NO ONE including the builders is aware of....

Yeah I don't know it's odd, maybe unplugging the antenna causes the alarm to reset?

Don,

Completely off topic but I'm sure you'll appreciate this... do you have the song below on mp3? I know you love freestyle music so I thought I'd ask you...

Don,

The remotes are not working at all now. I tried 3 remotes in total. 2 that I own and one that my friend owns, he has used it for over a year on his car without an issue and it works flawlessly on his car but it doesn't work at all on mine.

Plugging the antenna in and out makes no difference anymore. The alarm works fine but the remote doesn't respond or send any signal to the car.

I'd prefer to do an update and keep everything the way I have it right now. I have my strobes hooked up to the alarm and I have a siren that I can activate with a switch to go off or on with the alarm. I'd like to retain those settings as I've had them for over a year and need them for security purposes. Please let me know how we can proceed with a upgrade, that would be ideal for me. I apologize if I am missing or reiterating comments from our conversation I don't remember everything we discussed.

By the way this is somewhat of a priority for me as I prefer not to keep my car without an alarm. I know you mentioned you are available during the day sometime this week I'll see if I can rearrange a few things and make it out to you. Thanks.

Is there any reason why your keeping it here rather than just calling? Or PMing? Or emailing?

I doubt its the brain though. I've had my antenna stop working once before. Your situation sounds pretty similar to mine. The only difference is that if I plugged in my busted antenna, I could jam any keyless entry or alarm system of any car parked within 20 feet of my car.

I replaced the antenna and never had a problem since.
