Kicker L7 with amp question.

I'm new to car audio so bare with me. I just bought a kicker L7 12inch in a very nice ported box with fiberglass. I also bought a head unit today and all the bose parts. The amp I have is a Rockford fosgate amp. 600 watts at 2ohms and 300 at 4ohms. Now the guy who built my box wired the speakers for 4ohms instead of 1 ohms because we were not sure of what amp it would be used with, but I plan on getting a new amp soon. My headunit and amp is going to be wired in my car tommorow. It will be a couple of weeks before I get another amp. Can I use this amp with my subs in the meantime?

Yes. It will just be at a lower power level.

Thanks, thats what I was thinking, being new to subs/amps the guy at the shop kept saying you need a 1000 watt amp to power that thing. I didn't think that was true.

Just be sure to be conservative on your gains. It is easy to try and get more and end up clipping the amp sending a nasty signal to the sub.

it doesnt need to have a 1000 watt amp, but it could take it easily. and It would be loud with that power in the right box..

I installed the system and it is so loud with the amp I put. I think the current amp does 300 watts. I can't imagine anymore. I have the gain on the amp set to 1, it gets to a point when the bass is up so high you can't even hear anything but rattles.

Welcome to my expensive deadener habit. I have well over 260sq ft and I still have a few annoying spots I can't get rid of.

If one = 1 volt you may need to lower that a bit.

Well its all the way to the left almost at the lowest it can go, so I call that 1 gain.
