I just bought a JVC KD-SH77 CD receiver and I want to install the headunit myself. At the moment I have a 120watt non-bose headunit. What would I need to buy to do the entire install and can anyone give me some sort of instructions on what to do? I also want to hook the headunit up to my front and rear 6.5" Infinity Kappas. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Here's a link to the HU I bought:

Hi Nathan,

The first thing I think you need to get if you have a double din stereo in there is a pocket or sliding storage tray for under the stereo unit. If you don't have a double din then skip this step.
If your Infinitys are currently hooked up to your present radio through the factory speaker wires you don't have to do anything except buy a harness to mate with the factory harness and your radio. I would buy a Metra harness as they seem to be the standard in the industry. You may also need a mounting kit. I was told that I don't need one to mount my radio, but I am not sure regarding your radio. You also need an antenna adaptor. The Maxima antenna wire is very different and will not work with a standard type antenna jack. (This last statement may only be for the Bose system) I am not sure on the Non-Bose system.

I sure hope this helps a little. Im sure you will get more responses also.

dwwjr56, thanks for your help. I have the double din headunit and I actually haven't yet wired the Infinity speakers. Do I need anything special to hook up the speaker wires to the headunit or would I need to splice into any existing wires? Also, where can I find the wire harnesses that I need to use?

Can anyone that has the same headunit help me out with some info? Thanks,

Nathan

When you buy the Metra harness item #70-7550, the power, ground and speaker leads are already on the harness and all you have to do is match it up. On the back of the package it shows you which wire is what. You will also need the Metra 40NI10 Nissan antenna adapter since we have 2 antennas on our cars. If you have the double din JVC deck it should already come with a trim ring to take up the excess space between the stereo and the radio bezel. Let me know how it turns out.

Dave, so all I would need to buy for the install is the Metra harness item #70-7550 and the Metra 40NI10 Nissan antenna adaptor? I bought a 1 din headunit so is there anything else needed? Where can I buy both of the Metra products? Thanks,

Nathan

Nathan,

You can buy the harness and adaptor at any car stereo shop in your area. Check for a Tweeter store near you. You said you bought a 1 din head unit so you will need a tray for underneath or a drawer for the space. Check with your nearest Nissan dealer and have them order you one. I got mine from Courtesy Nissan. http://www.courtesynissan.com/ They are great to work with.
