Do both have the same features. I believe back in the day Excalibur came with more features than the Viper.

Both work well. The model I have on my van had proximity sensor, shock sensor, 3 button remote, dome light, 2 extra channels, and would make a beep after the last door is closed.

Viper 300+ basic arm disarm, optional dome light, shock sensor.

I got a Viper 800 ESP, it's okay, shock sensor, but I had to add tilt sensor, battery backup siren to it. What really bothers me is if someone jumps on the bumpers up and down, the thing don't go off, for that you need to add a motion sensor. I decided not to pay another arm and leg as I already got reamed for the Viper+installs+extras

Which particular Viper model are you looking for? Have you considered going with a Clifford?

If you want just a basic alarm like Viper 300+ should be around 170-180 installed.

Viper500 would be a little bit more. Both have the same options except 500 has some stupid button to activate anti car jacking which i've never seen anyone use.

Clifford let's say Ace300 will probably be around $200 installed.

If you want something more high end, look into the IQ series of Clifford alarms. ( I think it's still called IQ). like the 6000, 7000, 8000 models.

I use a Compustar alarm made by Firstech. It's got 2way pager, car start, trunk release, and the other basic features. I would say $600 installed if the store carries that brand or not.
