upgrading sound system in 1997 maxima...

I looked at the many posts on the audio forum to get some answers about upgrading audio system. I've found some answers, however I'm still confused about somethings...

So if any of you can clear it up for me, i'd appreciate it...

I have a non-bose system in my 1997 nissan maxima GXE.
1)I'm looking to replace my my 2 front door speakers and 2 rear speakers behind the back seats. Now what size do i need for front and rear? 6.5" or 6.75"??
What's the difference between a 2way speaker and a 3way speaker?

my speaker choices are(out of these which is best)?:
~Sony 6-1/2 in. Two-Way Speaker
~Pioneer Car Speakers, 6 1/2 in. 2-way
~Kenwood 6-1/2 in. 2-Way Round Speaker
~Jensen 6-1/2 in. Coaxial Speaker, 120 Watts Peak with 2-Way Swivel Tweeter

2)I'm going to get an amp for the front and an amp for the back...how many channels do i need and what's a nice watt output?

3)What is a tweeter?!Where does it usally go? and what size do i need for my car? (i know its a car speaker...but is it any different then a regular speaker that goes into the front door & rear side of car)

4)subwoofers...(out of these which is best)?
I have a choice of:
~12" Pioneer 450 watt peak
~10" pioneer 400 watt peak
~10" sony 600 Watts Peak
~12" Jensen 525 Watts Peak, 175 Watts RMS
~Jensen 10 in. Subwoofer, 450 Watts Peak

4th gen is 6 1/2 inches all around...tweeters serves as a high frequency speaker and the exact opposite would be a subwoofer which serves as a low frequency speaker...i will tell u this...once u start upgrading ur audio system...u'll always want to upgrade to something better...and there will always be something better..

1.I believe we have 6.75 all around. A two way speaker consists of a woofer and a tweeter, a three way has an extra midrange. They sound prety much the same.
2.For the amp, you should just get one four channel amp, for the speakers, and a mono or two channel for the subs.
3.You don't have a factory hole for a seperate tweeter. So you should stick to coaxials or figure out how to mount one.
Why are you limitted to those four brands? is it the price?

So the question this remains do i need a 6.5 or a 6.75?~!?~

Where are you planning to purchase your equipment from? If from a retail store like Circuit City, then I would suggest looking online for your speakers because you will find much better speakers at lower prices. Try http://www.thezeb.com/ . The speakers are 6.5" oversized, which is 6.75"

For the coaxials, I have personaly only owned Sony out of the brands you listed, they sounded pretty good of a pioneer CD player. I don't think you will notice much difference in quality at this level. Compare the specs, and get the ones with highest sensitivity, and power. As for the subs, I have also owned a sony sub. I would't get another one. I would go with the 12" pioneer, I heard two of them in car, and they sound pretty good.

hmm.....u say 12"pioneer subs...but compared to the other subs they have low watt peak.

the following question would be what is better... a larger diameter sub with a smaller watt peak, or a smaller diameter sub with a larger watt peak?

I recently installed a Kenwood head unit and four 3 way Kenwoods in my non-Bose 98. Kenwood has amp outs but I haven't yet installed an amp. However, I must admit the system sounds great as it is. The new headunit and superior speakers really blows away the stock piece of crap.

IF those are your only choices...

go with the sony for front, back, and subs....the subs are 10x better quality than the poineer and 100 times better than jensen....The explode series is very good for the price...

my choice..
2 or 3 10 inch sony explode +Big Sony amp
coax or 2 ways ....6.5 all the way around....
I had had the bose system in mine so now i hav 8's in my doors and 6.5 components in kickpods....and tweets in the doors...Im running all jl...

I started with Kenwoods and just kept moving up.....

ok, i had the same recommendations from another guy who's into sound systems. Um....do you think on top of that i should get 1/2in tweeters and put them in my doors(front?) also?

How do you begin? Is there a thread which discusses door panel removal? I've never changed speakers and as such, I wanted some advice. Thanks in advance

Jenson subs? I hope you are joking. Find some new subs boy..CMPx-2's ID MAX, Perfects, rockford punch, ha! who are we kidding. one word of advice, listen up boy. STay far away from MB quart Premium subs. don't ask why either.
what ever go invest in Legacy. they got some good products!
