Remote start on factory keyless...

Seems like there hasn't been a remote start thread in a while... so I decided to start one. Yes... I searched.

I've had great experience with DEI products... and I've even used an audiovox alarm system I got for way cheap before, and it worked great. I'm looking for a basic remote starter that uses the factory key fob as an input, (door lock pulse). Yes, I know that the factory remote supposedly eventually loses range... but I'd still want to use it.

I'm planning to use a Bulldog T-harness, that connects in between the factory harness reducing splicing into the factory harness.

Also, juuuuuuust to verify, a 98 i30 does not require a transponder bypass... correct?? The key doesn't even have room for it... haha. I've seen the 99's.

98 you need no bypass, correct.

Ill never understand why you people want to continue using your factory remote... its just not worth it. The range blows, the remotes don't last forever, and its more of a PIA to install.

I would suggest a DEI 160xv... lose the factory remote!

I have to disagree with difficulty level of install, theyre easier than a full blown. But I will agree with Not using the OEM remote, although to each their own I suppose...

yeah, havent done one (adding to oem) with a 561r/130xv yet, because 99.9% of customers want a better remote

(that was directed towards you, OP )

Alright guys... looks like the 561r is awesome for what I want. Found a good deal too. However, before I buy I got one question:

Does it use the factory remote?? As in, gets it's signal from the door lock pulse (3 times or whatever...). Got my friend interested on installing on his Range Rover.

I looked at all the manuals I could find, but nothing said anything about it. Even if it doesn't, I can still use the remote that comes with it... smaller and *better, 3ch so I can open the trunk too.

Also, I'm pretty sure the bulldog T harness is a universal harness... are there any others??

If you want it as an add-on you should be looking for the 561T. You can use a 561R, but the T is more made for add-on.

If you/your friend arent arent experienced I wouldnt advise the Range Rover, it's not nearly as easy as a Maxima.

Yeah, I just downloaded the installation manuals for the R and the T... only diff it seems is the R includes a remote, and has the features programmable through it. I'm probably going to get the R model, as I found it cheaper than the T models... not to mention the R includes the option of using the factory remote or the better/smaller/cheaper DEI remote. This would be 100% perfect for what I wanted, if only the timer mode was changeable to something longer than 3 hours.

I also checked into the Range Rover's wiring diagram, with all it's negative inputs, looks annoying... ha. He needs a transponder/spare key... and the spare keys run up to almost $100... so we'll wait.
