Crappy Experience with Bass Blockers

Well I was at circuit city applying for a job (mad discounts), and on my way out I picked up some bass blockers for my rear 6x9's Eclipses. I have a friend who uses these on 5 inch's (MTX I think), and they sound good. No bass and distortion from his system, and with an Alpine sub it's all very clear. He has Rockford Bass blockers I think... Well these were a crappy brand I had never heard of (PAC) but I didn't think it would make a difference. Well they sounded good for a while I was like "this is tight!" cuz I got no poping at all. Then my system started skipping, like for a slight instant the music would stop like a scratched CD but it would do this on perfect CD's, and radio. Never did this before the bass blockers, And stopped once I took them off. The bass blockers also seemed to draw extra power and my lights were dimming when they never did before (I have a 1 farad cap and only 300 RMS). Has anyone had this problem? Maybe it was the crappy brand of bass blockers, or do I need them on all four speakers for some reason? Help me out here, I want the clarity and can't afford a 4 channel w/high pass yet. (new subs/RF 800.2 very soon).

thanks,
PJ

My friend had the same type of bass blockers in his truck, and he never had any problem with them.

I am pretty sure the "bass blockers" are just a capacitor in line with the speakers. Therefore a simple 6dB(first order) crossover. I would say that the cutting off of your HU is somewhere else. Also, I think PAC invented the bass blocker idea. Any passive crossover will draw a small amount of power. But the cutting off really sounds like a wiring issue with your HU. And the lights dimming could be the same thing. The cap is probably wired only to the amp, so it doesn't help the HU which is powering the speakers to which the bass blockers are wired.

Well I took them off and returned them...

And my system works fine again, it's ntohing wrong with my wiring because it only happens with the blockers on. I am going to get another brand and see if I have any luck with them.
