remote starter question
remote starter question
hey guys, i have the viper 600 alarm package. its been in my car for 2 years now. i want to add a remote starter to my car. what would i need to buy so that it'll function with my alarm package. at the time i had the alarm installed (don't remember exact reasons why i chose not too) i didn't opt. to get the remote starter
So what would i need to get to add it to my existing alarm? or should i just upgrade to a better alarm system and get the remote starter in the package? on one more thing if i get a new system with remote starter would i have the to also get a new trunk opener? (I currently have one already now in the alarm sys.) Just want a heads up incase the place i goto trys to con/bs me by saying that it's compatible. Thanks.

it should be fairly easy to change from your current alarm to another one with remote start
most of the wires should already be connected to and the alarms probably have similar connections so you could just cut the current wires going towards the alarm box and then connect the new alarm to those
the only ones you should have to add are starter wires because most alarms already have accessory and ignition
if you have the install manual for the first alarm, it shouldnt be too bad; otherwise, get a voltage tester out there and figure out what each wire does
if you're not into doing it yourself, alarm shop shouldn't charge too much
and I dont see any reason why your trunk opener wouldn't work witha different alarm

If you want to add an existing engine start module to your car, go to your car alarm store, and ask for a DEI remote start module. They will install it and make it work with the 2nd or 3rd channel of your existing alarm.
