The BOSE Radio/Speaker Replacement thread
Its actually a combination of both. I hear rattling in the trunk and in the deck lid which can be remedied fairly easily but the subs are only playing at a low volume and the rear door speakers are hardly playing at all while the front speakers still jam out. I dont know what the guy did back there but I should have done it myself. I am going to take it back to them to see if they can fix it and if they cant i'm taking it out and replacing the subs in the rear deck with aftermarkets and an aftermarket amp for them. Which wires should the guy tap into for the LOC? Maybe that is the problem.

I don't know the actual wire colors. If you're getting signal, then they should be the right ones.
Just make sure he tapped the high level amplified wires, not the low level pre-amp wires. That could be why it's low.
The speaker wires coming out of the Bose HU are low level all the way up until the amps.

This is kinda like my first question awhile back, I know I can change out my HU with the Metra harness BUT if I want to add aftermarket components and replace my rear speakers, is there like some sort of speaker integration wire kit? That way I dont have to "re-wire" the whole car.
I did this to a CRV awhile back and it worked perfect, but it was a pretty standard factory set-up and I have a bose and it has all its individual amps and all, so is this possible?

In the 4th gen, each speaker has its own dedicated amp mounted with it in each door.
So if you change your factory HU to an aftermarket one and use a standard wiring harness, you'll have an amplified signal going all the way into each door. Remove the amp/speaker unit and determine which wire are the signal wire, and simply use those to power your aftermarket speakers. You may/may not have to extend the wire, I don't recall 100%.

im back with another pretty easy question, I guess. What is the latest year or generation maxima I can use for the bose speakers and tweeters? does that make sense, like, can I use tweeters and speakers from like an 02' and put it in my 98'? or do you have to stay within your generation only?....

hey there peoples, well today I short circuited my BOSE HU. It doesnt work, no radio, the only thing is the lights that turn on. I want to swap in THIS http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=263602_304642 From my research, I should also buy the -51. Is it just the HU and the harness to buy or is it way more complicated?
the installation manual for my pioneer deh-p4200ub says not to use it with speakers that are less than 4 ohm. can someone please tell me what i can do to get around this. i know the answer is probably somewhere in this thread and i have searched a little, but i have a bio exam on monday and i have already spent way too much time trying to figure this thing out when i should be studying. any help would be greatly appreciated.
haha thanks. that's the idea that i was getting from reading the other posts but until i started working on getting this head unit in i had no idea what an "ohm" was and until about 5 minutes ago i had no idea what impedance resistance was all about. i just needed to know all the details to be sure that i wasn't getting to blow the speakers or the head unit out.
i don't know it may have been worth it. i have NEVER had so much trouble installing a head unit! first the screws, then the harness. and when i went to install it yesterday, the illumination wire came loose from the crimp tube as i turned the ignition to test it, and it shorted my battery and blew the fuse for the dash lights.
i finally got it in today and everything is working beautifully. next time i walk past a soldering iron i'll ignore that voice that says "some other time."

Hey people. Been going through this forum alot before buying anything. I'm a new member and this is my first post but I have a feeling I will be writing more later on.
So I just got a 2000 maxima gle with the Bose system. My main goal of this project is to get a headunit installed with 4 aftermarket speakers and an aftermarket sub and amp in the trunk. Tonight I bought an aftermarket head unit, a metra wire harness nn03b, metra antenna adapter ndab, and a scosche dash kit nn1648b. I would just like to know if I missed anything that I need to make this a successful install. Also would like to know if using the stock wiring coming from the HU to the speakers can be reused with my aftermarket HU going to my aftermarket speakers. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

There's a few things that are incorrect with your setup. Need to know if you're removing/replacing the Bose speakers at the same time, or if you're doing a phased approach.

i just bought my car and the radio appears to be fully functional ie; controls, cd, tape but no function has sound.
no crackle, pop, hiss, noise nada.
no NAV is on the car.
so i was thinking of buying a used unit on ebay and after reading and reading, decided id just replace the original bose HU with aftermarket and keep the stock speakers and amp.
dont want it to crap out again in a year or so.
my question is this:
will this radio work with stock bose speakers and amp?

i think ill need the Access ASWC so i can continue to use steering wheel controls.
will i need Metra 70-7551 for the factory bose setup to work on this HU?

I will need to replace the console crap too coorrect? which would i need to order? i dont care about having a tape player since i can use my phone or my ipod.

Yes a Definity antenna adapter, it's under $10 bucks.

Froggmann, i ordered Kenwood KDC-BT645U from Crutchfield and even got the install kit that included the din, harness and antenna adapter free. I would have had to pay $50 on ebay for that alone so thanks for that bit of info as well.
As a side note, i tried a different amp and no go so decided to go aftermarket instead of try to fix the stock Bose.
Ill keep you everyone posted as to how it goes after the install.

Ok I.think.the answer is yes Since the pre-amp of.the HU sends the signal to the amp and the amp in turn powers the 3 ohm speakers.
Just so I don't have take it our again after its in, the blue signal.wire from HU harness will go on the purple wire that turns on the amp output correct?
I guess I.can wait and get the install info with the radio.

Yep, that's the right harness. Every wire will match up save for illumination/negative dimmer, forget which.
Blue with white stripe is technically the amp turn-on. Solid blue is power antenna. Make sure both get connected

Ill post a question about the wiring for the ASWC tomorrow since its late but the manual was a bit confusing as far as the wiring that needed to get connected to the harness. i got the 3.5mm and brown wire and power connected but just couldnt decipher the booklet instructions.

This is my first post. I am doing some work on my brother's 2002 Infiniti G20 and am replacing the head unit with an aftermarket HU. His G20 has the factory installed BOSE system. I removed the factory HU, installed the Metra 70-7551 harness (all connections are correct) and installed the HU. I got power to the HU when pressing clock or CD Eject (and the antenna begins to extend) but then it shuts off and the antenna retracts. Other than that, I cannot get the HU to power up.
I tested the voltage across the 12 volt constant power and ground and got 12 volts on the multimeter.
Then I tested the 12v switched (accessory) and ground and am coming up with nothing (about 5mA).
So, I believe that the issue lies in the lack of accessory power. BUT, I cannot find any blown fuses (I tested resistance across any that had to do with audio system and electronic components and all test perfectly), the accessory relay seems to be fine...everything seems fine. So then I tried plugging the factory HU back in and am getting no power.
SO, something has kicked the bucket somewhere, but I cannot figure out where! Might there be a fuse in the factory amp (in the trunk, I believe) that might have blown and is preventing the HU to power on? Anything else I can check or do to get this thing working again?

Sounds like a bad/unstable ground. Try using an independent ground to the chassis. That's something I had to do to get my HU up and running. As it turned out the harness grounds were really only there for show.
I have tried grounding to the chassis, but no luck. And putting the factory HU back in using the original wiring doesn't work either. I really think the fact that I am getting no power over the ACC 12v line is the culprit.
Does anyone know what fuse feeds that Accessory 12v line? I don't know if it is the AUDIO fuse or if it is one of the ELECTRONIC PARTS fuses.
