that would be great... I am in for the pictures.

BETTER than a Garmin portable. MOST indash > portables because of the VSS wire that is required to be hooked up for accuracy.

pics! flush AVN

Finally got around to finishing my dash kit today and here are some pics of my flush mounted ANV 6620. I didnt get any before pics but Im sure if you search around you will find some Still a small gap on the bottom but it a heck of a lot better than what it was. And besides the AVN needs clearance to open and close.

Thanks Don! I got the wood kit from WOW trim in Roselle Nj. The guy Gus there is a great guy to deal with, thanks for referring me to this place. And their wood kits are by far the best I've had so far( 3rd wood kit ) to date. WOW Trim will custom make you a piece if you give him the dimensions or you can take a trip there like I did. I had them make me the radio trim piece, the radio trim piece the kit comes with will leave a big fugly gap under the AVN. All I did to get it flush was measure back a little less than a 1/4" (depending on if you want it flush or further back) from the stock mounting holes, redrill and screw back in. You will have to make the bracket as flat as possible to get your holes drilled properly and get the screws to catch to the AVN, But with time and patience you'll get it. Dont quote me on that measurement for those attempting this Im not responsible if you screw it up. I only redrilled 2 holes and it was sufficient enough .

6620 troubles

My 6620 is not reading cd or dvds when insert a disc I get a check disc or check dvd disc display I removed the battery leads to see if that would reset the radio and the problem is still there. Any of you guys experience anything like this with the 6620? To top this all off the radio is locked in the ESN mode and will not read the security disc I set up, So I know have no radio at all. Im so freaking pissed!

I hope they redo the UI. The UI on the current models are hideous, IMO.

Quick question about the 6620.

Let's say it's night time and I'm cruising down the road (headlights on) and the HU is off. Is the power button and a few other buttons backlit??? The last thing I want to do is turn on the interior lights so I can see where the darn power button etc is to turn on the HU.

May sound like a silly question, but my Kenwood 8017 doesn't light up and it drives me nuts. I even called Kenwood, and they acknowledged the problem.

Thanks for good news. Much appreciated.

Yeah, I know the new units are right around the corner, but I think I'm going to take the plunge at $700 from Crutchfield with free Blue Tooth, 1/2 price Ipod adapter and free shipping. The new unit will be back to $1200+. I'll probably get the new unit next year this time when they go on clearance like the 6620's.

Depends where you get it.

The new units will have ..

Fully built in/integrated BT
Navi via a SD card rather than DVD
USB integrated
iPod via cable rather than another unit

And a few others ...

The Avn don't come in pitch black but it is a nice greyish color. I hoping the newer units have more customized features this time around. So now you have to get a new fake face lol. I was going to tell you to see if Don can beat that deal at Crutchfield... that is a good deal though. Don give me a call ..my remote start is not working .

Oh, I know. The greyish color bothers me somewhat. I think all electronics should be pitch black. That's about the only redeeming factor about my Kenwood 8017 .

This new HU will be going in my newish 98 Max, so I'll have to make another fake face. I'll probably keep the Kenwood 8017 in the 99 Max for a little bit longer.

Don... what are advantages of #1 and #3?
If I understand this correctly #4 is for ease of install procedure and same with #1. Those don't really make much of a difference on the users end do they?
thanks.

Number 1, the current bluetooth setup requires a seperate speaker if you are using amplifiers. This should be taken care of, and the bluetooth unit will now be internal to the unit.

USB allows you to connect mass st orage devices such as USB drives into the HU and play files off of that.

IMO, having an external Ipod adapter "box" is pretty dated, no excuse for it really. I installed a midlevel $200 Kenwood deck in my gf's Civic about 10 months ago and it only needed a cable to play her Ipod, no external box. No extra space required etc etc.

USB is cool, but it's pretty much an Ipod/MP3 world so that's not much of a selling point IMO, unless I'm missing something.

The upcoming bluetooth feature sounds the best so far to me.

Thats if you even use the blue tooth.. I was going to get one before and Im glad I didn't . Got the back up camera instead. The thing that will get most interested Imo in the newer Eclipse model would be the ability to play Ipod videos , movies etc. Along with more custom feature such as wall papers and ability to have change the color of the control buttons like the avic F series would be some nice additions.

To each his own. I am DEFINITELY feeling that usb storage ability as well. My windows mobile phone is my ipod in the gym and car. I would love to have more abilities in the car. And maybe you can play videos directly like the ipod. So far, I'm happy with the upgraded features.

If designed efficiently, there's still no need for a direct USB connection IMO for non-Ipod goodies IE cellphones. Example: My gf has an Ipod and a Motorola cell phone that has tons of music on it as well. One cable coming out of the auxilary/Ipod input in the back of the unit allows her to play either one. Of course, I had to buy a $3 adapter piece for her to use the cell phone as a source of music. Her deck also has a USB port on the front. We haven't tinkered with that yet.

Of course the more the merrier (adding USB). No complaints from me. In one sense, a USB stick is super cheap compared to an Ipod, and can hold a ton more music and stuff compared to cell phone storage. There are pros and cons to a USB stick though. "Having it all" is just a win-win situation I suppose. Looking forward to the new unit as well.
