push button/remote start compatiblity?
would installing a push button starter interfere with a remote start alarm? its been a while since i've installed an alarm but iirc it works off the starter/12v wires through a relay as would the push button.
How exactly are you trying to wire in the push button?...Like an S2000 where you still put the key in and turn it to ignition prior to pushing the button? If so, the alarm/rs won't see any difference between that and turning the key all the way to start.
I'm sure you have your reasons, but personally, Ive never seen much purpose in installing a push button start when a remote start is already in. DEI needs to make an aftermarket smart-key setup like in the brand new Nissans/Infiniti's, where its truly keyless. I'd be all over that.

all good points but i plan on doing it anyway. i wont go into too many details other than its a show car and ties into the build.
so necessity aside, would i encounter any problems?
the smart key thing would be sick though. i did a short amount of research trying to learn about the altima system, but didn't find much info. and i'm pretty sure it would be impossible to switch over into my car.

Integrating the transponder to an aftermarket smart-key setup would take some serious work, plus youd have to bypass the steering wheel lock when a key isnt in the cylinder. PITA.
You shouldn't encounter any problems at all. Your starter wire will already be cut under the dash for the alarm, so be sure to wire in your push button on the key cylinder side of the alarm wiring, or else the alarm's starter kill will be useless (even though the transponder would still provide some security). Other than that, everything should be fine.

ok thanks.
the way you are saying it makes it sound like there are am smart keys. is this true? the only reason i thought transferring one from another car wouldn't work was i figured it would run through the ecu/bcm and be all complicated. if theres an am add on i want it. as you can tell i'm not scared of some work:

You could always just permanently bypass both the steering wheel lock and transponder. Then youd only have to carry around the alarm remote, having wired switches in the car to power ignition and accessory, and the button for starter.
My supervisor at work has an 86 Toyota pickup with no steering wheel lock and obviously no transponder from the factory. I wired up one switch for both ignitions, one switch for accessory, and a valet button to push for starter (which only works if you are hold the high beam switch engaged). Took a bunch of relays to do, but nobody is stealing that truck anyways, its a beater, he usually leaves it unlocked all the time anyway so he never carries a key at all.
