bazooka tube installation
hey everyone,
I'm going to try out the self amplified 200w 10" bazooka tube in the max. Don't need anything really powerful... just something to add a little more bass than the stock bose has (and I really need to keep my trunk space).
The user manual talks about using high vs. low level inputs (keep in mind I don't know any of this stuff)...
So in hooking this up to the stock Bose... will the installer use high or low level inputs?? I'm assuming they'll just know this??
Any help is appreciated... so I can somewhat understand what they're talking about when I take it in to get it installed .

If you're going to run of the stock bose, you'll have to tap into one of the rear speakers..
Using a speaker output (Speaker wires) as an input = High level
Using a preout on an Aftermarket headunit (RCAs) = Low level

Thanks man.
Another question...
Just got off the phone w/ Circuit City. The guy told me the install would be close to $200. He said the wiring was $80... install was $60... $25 for high-low converter... and $25 fee to install the converter.
Does this seem high??

this is the response I got...
You will need a Hi/Lo convertor and a remote amp turn on module at a cost of about $40. You will also need about 15' of 8 guage power wire, fuse and holder, and 14' of RCA's. Including installation, all modules, and wiring you are looking at about $85. It will work with your factory system just fine.
does that sound about right??

got it put in this morning.
and it sounds pretty good. even they admitted it sounded much better than what they expected.
nobody will ever hear me coming down the street... but the sound inside the car is much better now.

another question for anyone...
I'm pretty happy w/ the sound from this. Really all I need. But I realized today that my rear speakers aren't on. Is that right? When you install a sub w/ the factory system do you have to disable the rear speakers??

ok, 1 more question.
are the stock bose 6x9's full range speakers? I would think so. Just want to make sure... don't want to get there and have them tell me that they're actually on. =)
and again... thanks for all of the info. I'm very new anything car audio.

Im not too familiar with the newever maximas but my '00 came w/ the bose system and it has 2 speakers in the rear doors and 1 sub in the decklid...Im going to assume you have roughly the same setup
Go on your head unit and shift all of the FADE to the REAR of the car...just to make sure the speakers are really not working.
Im sure the Bose 6x9s are full range...I could see if you had a decklid sub and the install store disabled that (which makes sense) but if your 6x9s are not working they definately screwed something up
