avic d3 install Q.

Just tried installing this in my 5.5 gen max. It seems to bolt directly to the factory bracket, but it leaves a massive gap between the climate controls. How can I get rid of the gap? Is there an adapter plate that I am missing?

2 ways.

1. set the HU where you want it and drill new holes in the factory cage

2. cut ABS to fill the gap.

2 won't work because the vents won't go back in. kind of sucks since there are perfect holes which line up but puts the unit up too high

It will work, it just takes some fitment. I would just position and drill new holes. Much easier IMHO.

Sweet. No milling machines at my disposal. Post up your work when you get it done. I would like to see it.

ok, I am almost done, got the stereo to line up the way I want it. problem is I can't get the pac-ps unit to work. I think I tapped into the wrong harness? Is the harness the 3rd one that plugs into the bose? small brown connector which plugs into white female on the back of the old bose unit?

OK, I know I am tapped into the correct harness, I have the 150 ohm resistor between the blue/yellow wire (harness) and the white (PAC), and I have the 47 ohm resistor between the red (harness) and the white(pac). Grounded properly, lights up when I punch the program button, flashes when it is supposed to but when I hit a steering control button I get no led. Anyone have any suggestions?

you programmed the version number first correct? Did you solder the resistors? Also make certain it doesn't tell you to go to the steering column rather than behind the radio.

yes it is programmed for version 3, when i try to program nothing happens so it flashes 3 times then 3 times again when nothing is programmed. They show a picture of the harness in the manual so I assumed that's where I should tap in. Everything is soldered, I hate crimps.

Well, it is almost done. I got the new hu installed a few days ago, had a few problems with the steering wheel interface. I also was not happy with the front console color mismatch so I decided to go to Crappy Tire and buy some krylon paint. I removed the titanium finished trim from around my stick shift and brought it into the store and found what I thought was the best match to the original Nissan titanium color. It isn't perfect (metallic sheen) but it's damn close. so I painted the shifter trim, the HVAC controls, the scoshe trim for the HU, and the center vents all the same color. Sorry, these are night shots, I will post daytime shots in a few days.
