another question. splicing?
another question. splicing?
well i have a small system that my dad had installed. i was just curious if its common to splice into the rear speakers and use those as the input on the amp. cuz thats how mine is, and well i think thats wrong. but oh well. also when i put the volume high(but not too high) it gets real crackly. i was wondering if its because i have the amp connected through the rear speakers?

It takes the signal from your speaker output and converts it to a usable RCA for your amplifier.

so that basically converts the highs to lows?
one more thing my radio has a pre amp output. and a selectable sub out.but im guessing its not connected from the radio. but the **** to set the amps bass doesnt affect it at all?why?

Some amps have a high-level input which negates the need for an external converter. You can tell by looking. Look for wires going into your amp. The red and white (usually) little circle jacks are the RCA inputs. If those are empty, then you're probably using the amp's high level. Usually a 6 wire harness connector into the side of the amp.
To answer your question... I'd say it's common. If your head unit is stock then it's the only way to get input to your amp. Sound quality suffers, especially for bass, over an RCA connection from your head unit.

nah im using the rca jacks on the amp. my dad did some "custom" wiring and converted the regular positive and negative speaker wire to rca. my my high level input is empty.my hu is aftermarket and has pre amp outputs and sub out and controlls but i guess my dad was too lazy to run them from the headunit. i guess im going to have to do it myself
Because the preout is not being used. You need to run an rca cable from the radio to the amp.
