Anyone experiencing Amp turn ON thump with Bose & aftermarket unit?
I have a '99 Maxima with Bose and decided to upgrade my head unit to something more updated. I bought a Kenwood Excelon kdc-x595 with ipod, usb, and aux capability.
I also have a Metra 70-7551 amp integration harness that will allow the Bose speakers and amp to work with the aftermarket unit.
Well, I connected everything properly and am now getting a thump/pop from the speakers every time I turn the unit on and every time I switch tracks on a CD.
Has anyone experienced such issues. I called Crutchfield and they told me that I have to install a 100 ohm resistor & 2200 micro fared capacitor on the blue wire with the white stripe which I think is the "amp turn on" wire if I remember correctly.
Has anyone done this to resolve such an issue?
At first I thought it was a bad ground but checked everything and all checked out fine.

Thanks Nismos14. I remember you from my Altimas.net days.
The pop/thump in the speakers happens sometimes when the radio is turned on and almost always when I switch tracks on a CD. It does not happen when I switch radio stations on the tuner when the radio source is selected.
Do the amps flicker on and off every time I switch the track on a cd? Why does this not happen when I switch radio stations?
This is starting to irritate me since I bought a decent headunit-Kenwood Excelon with 4v pre-amp outputs and the Metra harness which I thought would sound better when paired with the 4V outputs than the Scosche harness which you have to adjust speaker levels for each of the 4 channels.
I am also having fitment issues with the Metra dash kit. Are there any good dash kits that won't leave any gaps in between the radio and the pocket. Will a OEM Maxima GXE pocket work for this setup and provide a better fit?

Thanks for the help nismos14 and to all others.

I believe I read somewhere that the BOSE amps need a lower voltage turn-on lead than what the aftermarket head unit delivers, and that is why you are getting the pop. Radio Shack has a component that you connect to the turn-on lead and it lowers the voltage going to the amp. Supposedly this cures the pop issue.

I was told that this can be solved with a 100 ohm resistor (Radio Shack part # 271-1108) and 2200 Microfarad capacitor (Radio Shack part # 272-1048).
1hawaii50, are you saying that you only installed one part on the turn on lead that eliminated the pop?
Do the part #'s I posted above look like what you installed?

I haven't installed anything yet. I'm still getting all my parts together for the install. I had called Crutchfield and was working my way through some questions with their tech line, and the tech told me about the part. Call Crutchfield, and they can tell you what you need to get from Radio Shack.

Spartuss,
Sorry to thread jack but I've got a '96 camaro with a bose system and I've got the exact same problem. Have you tried this fix yet and did it work?
How exactly are the capacitor and resistor wired in? Does one need to go before the other or do I just solder them both into the amp remote line?
Thanks!
