Recommendations for complete system for 07 SE
Recommendations for complete system for 07 SE
I sold the gear that I had pulled out of my Taurus (was going to use it in the Maxima), so know I get to plan a system from scratch. I have a 2007 SE, Bose, w/o navigation.
I'm thinking for the head unit, either:
Pioneer DEH-880prs
Kenwood Excelon KDC-x991
Alpine CDA-9887 (currently have this in my Altima)
Eclipse CD7200MkII
For the front doors, Cruthcfield only has a few offering that they say will fit as there is not much clearance. Of the 6 they have that fit, I'm considering one of the following four:
Polk DB6501
Infiniti Reference 6020CS
JBL Grand Touring Series GTO637
Alpine SPS-600c
For the rear doors, I'm thinking simple co-ax, with either of the following:
Infinity Reference 6022i
Infinity Kappa 62.7i
Boston Acoustics SX65
Infinity Kappa 62.9i
JBL Grand Touring Series GTO637
JL Audio TR600-CXi
I'm going to remove the rear 6x9 subs and drop a single 10" in a sealed box in the trunk. I'll have the 6x9's out to allow more sound through into the cabin. I'm not sure on the make/model of the sub yet. I'm only looking at 10's, as I don't need to rattle any windows, just fill in the bottom end.
As far as amps, I was figuring on getting a 4 channel with roughly 120W RMS per channel. I will run the fronts passive off the amp, and bridge the second two channels (should be between 300-500W RMS depending on the amp) and use the second two channels bridged for the sub. I will then get a slightly smaller 2 channel amp for the rear doors, as most of the co-ax's only need roughly half the power of the component sets in the front.
I'm wondering if anybody knows of any other better components that will fit in the front doors? Crutchfield told me that I have 1.96" of mounting depth, and .83" of mounting height for the factory front door woofer. If I'm understanding this correctly, then I should be able to use any woofer with a total depth of 2.75" or less, if I use MDF spacers to space the speaker out? Am I thinking correctly here?
Lastly, I'm looking at current amp offerings from these vendors to be used to power the front comps, and bridged to the sub:
Diamond Audio
MB Quart PAB 4100
Alpine MRP-F600
MB Quart DSC4125
Soundstream PCX4.540
Soundstream TRX4.640
Soundstream TRX4.880
The second amp (2 channel for the rear doors), I am undecided on.
I also know that I will need the PAC SWI-X to retain steering wheel controls, and the Axxess NIRD-01 to retain the info/trip screen and the bluetooth. I will also need the Metra kit, and the radio wiring harness with the speaker adapter.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

That was quite a post.
The user interfaces on each head unit are subjective, but for sound quality the Eclipse is going to be the best bet. It is hard to beat 8v 55ohm preouts in an unamplified deck, a copper chassis, built in bluetooth, good eq and a slew of other features.
However, something to think about is that the Eclipse is the only one of those without an internal amp. If you are dead set on rear fill, then if I were you I would simplify everything and use the head unit power for the rear fill because I could then spend more money on the other amp and other components and get better sound overall. But this eliminates the CD7200 as an option. So you could get the CD7200 and stick with your plan of two amps, get the CD7200 and ditch rear fill altogether, or get one of the other headunits and use the deck to power the rear coaxes.
That being said, most SQ guys (read:most of the enthusiasts on this forum) are going to say to ditch the rear speakers. True SQ comes from a sound stage in front of you, i.e. a concert. Music is only recorded in stereo, there is no reason to make it surround sound. So if it were me, Id get the CD7200, ditch the second amp, ditch the rears, and spend my money on a better 4ch amp and better components. And by better, I mean non-mainstream stuff.
One of the 6th gen guys will have to post up the biggest speakers they have fit, but you should be able to fit just about any 6.5" speaker in there.
It just so happens that our moderator for this forum has a shop in NJ that carries ONLY high end car gear and might be able to sell you some good stuff. Figure out and post a budget and things will be easier.

I would have to think that I could do a decent head unit, comps, amp, and single sub for between $1,000 and $1,200. I've got a line on a Polk PA1100.5 5 channel amp, and a line on a MB Quart RAA4200, just waiting to see how they pan out. I am open to only doing the front doors. I figure, if I decide to do the rear doors down the road, it isn't that big of a deal to add speakers later. Crutchfield says I have 1.96" mounting depth, and .8" top mount height. If I'm understanding correctly what they are telling me, I should be able to get a 2.75" to "just fit". I'm not doing any sound competitions, I just want a "nice" setup/sound!
OK, my budget just went up a little bit
! I've got a Rockford "25 to Life" Power 1000 amp, and a set of Morel Dotech Ovation components coming. Still need the wiring, head unit, PAC adapter, and NIRD-01. I'm almost halfway there

sounds like a good setup, and would like to know how it ends up. I wanted to put an aftermarket stereo in my max, but everyone told me i would lose the info screen part. I noticed the part numbers you have and looks like its possible. Gives me hope.
I found the amp used over at caraudio.com, and there is also a member there who is able to get Morel speakers. The amp should be here tomorrow, and the speakers should be here next week.

Just a little FYI ... there is Absolutely no legit Morel dealer on CA.com or anywhere else for that matter that is permitted to ship their products. If he told you otherwise, then it is a blatant lie. A little further info ... he is not a dealer, only someone that buys from a transhipping shop owner.
Check my name on those sites as well ... 6spdcoupe. Been in the industry longer than he has been breathing air, have feedback, recommendations, etc before he was allowed to drive ... still means nothing. I am the territory rep for Morel as well as dealer still their products are prohibited from shipping.
would i be able to install cleanly and still be able to place my door cover over a pair of polk MMC6500 in the front (components) and polk MMC650 in rear doors? What is the deepest speaker that I can mount in these locations?
Has anyone read/seen a thread about how to install an aftermarket head unit on a 2007-2008 (6.5 gen) maxima? The dash is different on these two years than from the 2004-2006 maximas. Please PM me with the link to any of the threads.
Thanks.
Thanks.
