Hardwired My Radar Detector

I have a Beltronics 940 radar detector that I finally got around hardwiring it to the Max. $15 for the wire and 30mins later the clutter is gone. The wire is tucked under the headliner, runs down to the left pillar, and plugs directly into the fuse box. I love this set up I may have to buy another wire for my truck.

The original set up.....ugly as sin

The detector is mounted high, in front, and to the left of the rear view mirror. I prefer this set up.

Thanks, I was itching for something to do on my long weekend off from work. I did this in my 4th Gen and basically forgot about it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but any tutorials on this?
What wire did you buy, from where, how long did it take? Etc..

any phone wire should work. you can tap into the radio fuse under the dash, so that your radar will turn on whenever the ignition is on acc/on.

A volt meter on a two wire connection would be much easier than a wiring diagram IMO. I have had my beltronics rx65 hard wired for years. Used a multimeter to find and ACC wire in the dome light. Did it before telephone became part of my job so i paid like nine bucks for a phone end on a piece of(what looked like) phone wire with an in-line fuse. The wire at the splice end was not like the jumper you find between your telephone and wall jack though. It was a heavier gauge than what i get at work.

A piece of satin(jumper from phone to wall) has four fine strand wires. Red, Green, Black, and Yellow. I had to replace the end on my ebay wire because the 13dub7 makes the radar detector fall sometimes. Eventually it pulled out the yellow and black wires. The red and green wires were still connected. I could not tell you which one is positive or negative though. I put a new end on exactly as the original one.
Something else about the satin wire, it is very fine stranded wire and there are not very many strands. The stranded wire is so small that it breaks easily. Will it work, sure. Will it last, I'm not so sure for this application. If there is solid core satin like there is cat4 wire then that would be perfect. You can also put a rj11 or RJ14 end on cat4 wire. I would use that instead and paint it black or put some heat shrink around it. You can use either RJ11 or RJ14 ends. The red and green are in the middle.

Or just cough up a couple of bucks and buy a wire already made up for you with a higher quality wire than the one on a telephone.
