a couple of questions about my sub n amp setup...

so as the tittle says i have a few questions about my setup but before i ask i did search here and google for a while and yes i know my stuff "sucks" to most of u guys but its what i have until i have the extra money to upgrade as severely as i want to but i am layed off and im a single dad. So please spare the "upgrade your stuff sucks" replies. i have 2 12'' xplode subs in a bandpass box with a d1000.2 amp i want to make the best of what i have for now. just an fyi the ports are not tuned for these subs.the subs are facing forwards now and i usually fold down the seats for air flow to the amp. any help will be appreciated

#1 im curious as to if i would gain deeper more accurate hits with a sealed or ported box? an i know the "muddy" sound will go away even with what i have for an amp but will it be that much better? i ask because i know somebody with a few boxes for sale and i can get one real cheap

#2 should i face subs to front or rear? i was told bass is non directional but it was from someone at best buy so who knows if its true

bass works off of reflection 9/10 times its better to run twords the trunk. i ran the same subs for quite awhile and there not too bad.. i ran one inside out and the other opposite with a non ported pro box pushed by a sony 1000 watt and it was decent. it also depends on what kind of music you listen to if you listen mostly to rock, techno and so on a sealed (non ported) box is what i would reccomend, hip-hop or rap i would go with a true ported box.

bandpass boxes generally have a very narrow frequency response compared to a ported or sealed enclosures. sealed boxes will yield the most accurate response, since the tuning of a ported box will affect how it sounds. if the ported box is tuned high, you'll gain a bit of output, but the response will be a bit peaky in certain frequencies. low tuned ported boxes are great for a more linear output. so if you're going with the ported route, make sure you know the boxes' tuning (a lot of prefab ported boxes are tuned pretty high). so if you want more accurate bass response, go sealed. want a little more output? go ported.

Nothing wrong with your equipment, people bag on Sony because they're hit or miss on some of their stuff but on average you can make their products perform pretty good.

The downsides of bandbass is getting them tuned right and its hard to know when you're causing the amp to clip because the enclosure masks when you're driving the subs too hard.

Ported enclosures work and perform fine but again it's getting the tuning correct for the particular sub you're using which means proper enclosure and port size.

The "easiest" is a sealed enclosure, a little bit more foregiving as far as exactness on enclosure. If space is a concern sealed is often recommended because you can usually make up for the lack of output from a samll enclosure by giving it more power (sealed enclosures are on the less efficient side).

On average, facing the subs rearward will give you roughly +3db gain as it uses the trunk to reinforce the output (trunk gain).
