aftermarket amp??

I have a 96 Maxima with the Clarion/Bose system and want to add another amp and a sub. If I have an aftermarket amp with both high and low level inputs on it, can I use the high level inputs and just hook them up to the rear speaker leads?? Or do I need to use a line level converter and run RCA cables to the trunk?? What kind of sound quality am I looking at if I go either way?? I really have no desire right now to totally revamp my system and I like the stock look of the Clarion.

There's two ways you can do it.. I used to have a set up that tapped into the rear speakers, it somewhat lowered the clarity (slightly, but made up for it with the bass from the box), and the rear speakers didnt play as loud. i just cut an rca cable and stuck it in before the bose amp (yeah i know its pretty ghetto). i think that line is preamped so you dont need a converter (at least i didnt use one). there are 4 wires, 2 of them are audio, and the rest im not sure. I know its the two diagonally oposite of each other that you need (pretty sure). I just ordered 2 subs for my car and an amplifier, but im getting the converter that plugs in behind the head unit. im going to run rca's to the rear of the car. I ordered my stuff from ampmanaudio.com and they found the adapter i need for me (i couldnt find the damn thing anywhere). I think they got it from stinger....Hope this helps.....I should have my car set up within 3 weeks, so if you have time, wait and ill tell you if the adapter is worth getting (it was 40 bucks, i have no idea what it looks like, maybe its just a inline converter, ????).
