Radar/Laser Detector Recommendations

Have noticed myself speeding more in my new Maxima. Was looking into purchasing a radar detector but it's a little overwhelming of all the different products out there. Does anybody have any good recommendations for a radar detector between $100-300? Known manufactures to avoid would also be good to hear.

Yes, what's your budget.

If you are looking for a radar detector, then there are many choices. You can get the V1, escort 9500, escort redline or the STi.

If your area has laser, then get a laser jammer.

Keep up posted.

Well It appears to get a "good" detector you gotta spend at least $200-300. Ideally I wouldn't like to spend > $200, I saw some Cobra's at best buy from $50-165. Just didn't want to jump on the first one I saw before doing some research. From what I understand there are essentially 3 risks for getting caught speeding. Radar guns, Laser guns, and Speed traps ie red light cams etc. It appears most newer models pick up radar and laser guns but I was unclear if you need a separate laser jammer to actually avoid a quick shot from a cop. I'll take a look at the beletronics and valentine one...

Correct. You will get beat via Instant on and Laser. You can beat laser but it depends on what state you live in. I would go with a laser jammer first if anything.

Agreed..No radar dectector will give you ample warnings on Laser...you need a jammer for sure.

For Radar, Redline is KING, the Ka alerts are just unbelievable...but so is the price ($500!). Next would be the V1 or STI, The V1 falses a lot and the STI is stealth (if radars are illegal where you live).

If I only had $200 to spend, I'd go with the Whistler Pro 78SE.

More info on all radars and jammers here:

Wow, $500 for a dedector? I think I'd rather take the chance at getting a ticket, or slow down enough that I don't draw any attention to my speed...

Well some states they have Radar Detector Detectors and yes, it can detect that you are running a radar detector in your car. For those states in where one in your car is illegal.

yeah but if you're the lonely soul who's out there on the highway crusin' and not paying attention to the road, that detector would give you a few seconds to slow down. Better than nothing.

Ever since I had my escort passport and Valentine 1, I've been ok. Now its time for a laser/Lidar jammer.

So is the Escort 9500i legit then? Is the GPS database kept current?

Yup, they have updates that come out. Just have to download them to your unit.

Nice, I was eyeballing one a couple weeks ago and meant to read up on whether or not they worked as advertised. Might have to try one out.

Where do you live? Perhaps a laser jammer is better than a Radar detector now.

I've used Escort/Passport radar detectors for over 25 years and they have never failed me. I will be buying an updated version next week.
