Need help with FRONT SPEAKER replacement on 5th gen 2003 Max

I am trying to replace stock speakers in my front door panel with Polk DB651. Before purchasing these, I checked on Crutchfield and their website said these are compatible with 2003 Maxima.

I removed the inner door panel to get to the speaker and this is what it looked like:

As you can see from the above pictures, its a simple plug that fits directly into the socket of the speaker.

Below is an image of the POLK speaker that I am trying to install. As you see, it doesn't have any socket. Can someone guide me what I need to do to install this speaker. Does Nissan or Polk sell some sort of socket/adapter that I need?

You can do what I did and simply took a dremel and cut everything out leaving the outer edge to screw the speaker to. Let me see if I have a picture of the factory ring with the paper cone and plastic removed. I have a set ready to drop your new speakers into if you need them.

Here, I found a pic of a set of rings that have been cut. I feed the new wires thru the white square were the OEM harness went thru.

that sounds like a lot of work.. plus I am trying to salvage the stock speakers (I will put them back in when I sell the car).

If worse comes to worst, I will probably end up doing what you did, but there has to be an easier way, as I can't imagine everyone having to do this if they want to replace the speakers.

you need to purchase some 6.5" MDF speaker rings. 3/4" or half thick would be fine.. get them on ebay or you may try a local stereo shop.

reuse stock brackets just sit your new speaker in a screw them down, and for the harness cut off the white connector and strip the wire crimp on aftermarket speaker connectors and your done just make sure you know which is pos+ or neg- coming from the car

You could always do this...

Build your own baffles out of MDF...

Worked really good for me when I replaced the Bose in my 5th Gen... You can just use the factory baffles as a guide for fitment and if you plan to replace the factory speakers when you sell the car, you can drop them in with the original baffles without any issues.

Hope that helps!

but to answer the question asked, yes they do sell speaker harness adapter's, which is a plug and play part, available at your local best buy, etc in which you dont have to cut the factory plug

@Andrew...

I wish I could, but they're hosted on my cardomain page. For some reason, I can't post the full-sized photos from there and I have no idea where I saved the original photos I took... :|

If you know how, I'll repost them so you can see what I did, otherwise the best bet would be to look at my cardomain page so you can blow the photos up.

Here's my page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2048098/1 (see p.2)

Looking back at them, I hate that I didn't give myself the time to remove all of that stuff from my old car before I traded it in on my new one... now I'll have to do it all over again... :-P

Oh well, I guess it's just another photo opp whenever I do decide to do this again!!!

Now when you cut out the rings, did you do it in 2 pieces? First the flat cut out and then the ring?
